L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
--------------------------
We are now in the 4th full day of Raumin Gone. Monday, we left his
chair at Granny's "open" in honor of his absence. Tuesday we discussed
the possibility of donating it, (Jerry's chair) to the Smithsonian, like
Archie Bunkers chair was. Then Wednesday, someone sat down on it and
said...... Jerry who?
---------------------------
Those of us that remember Ralph Dangerfield certainly must remember one
of Ralph's favorite sayings. - "I've never met anyone yet that has been
able to spend their way into prosperity." - Ralph, among other things,
used to spend a fare amount of time and energy, in the 50's and 60's,
lending money to folks.
It would be interesting to hear what Ralph would say regarding todays
state of the economy.
-----------------------------
Have you heard the latest? Not only is toilet paper stock, I suspect
that the paper too, is "in the crapper". I'm guessing my library isn't
the only facility "requesting" a reduction in squares per sitting.

Everyone is entitled to believe what they want to believe. Personally,
I believe Al Gore is shouting FIRE in a theater, when he should be
roasting marshmallows alongside a campfire.
Of course global warming is a fact. However,.... I refuse to believe
that the flatulence from the cows on Williamsons Dairy Farm contributed
appreciably to the global warming issue.

If we could pass out kudos to folks in a Grafton business that not only
keeps their store extra neat and clean, they also keep the sidewalks in
front of their store extra clean and inviting. The Kudos would and
should go out to The CountryPolitan Store on mainstreet. As a matter of
fact. They not only keep the sidewalks in front of their store clean,
they clean the sidewalks of the businesses on each side of them as well.
Thank you very much,........ from those of us that really care.

It is a fact that the Gazette is written, literally from the floor of
the prehistoric Lake Aggissz. You'll remember that's the lake formed
after the "last" glacier (10,000 years ago) melted because the globe
started warming up. Marjie wrote the following note regarding that
reference.
She wrote >>> Good morning Gary. Thanks for the history/geography
lesson this morning. I thought I was beginning a James Mitchener book.
If he was still alive I'm sure North Dakota would have been an
interesting setting for one of his novels. I had read a little about
Lake Agassiz before my bike trip there a few years ago. I find that kind
of information fascinating.
Stay warm. It's heading up to 82 here today. With such extreme
differences in temperatures I find that too fascinating when our
temperatures are the same, which happens a few times a year.
Marjie <<<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Marjie. Please
forgive me if I seem to be as repetitive as Al Gore. Al IS RIGHT, the
globe is warming. Even I believe the globe is warming. (Remember where I
write the Gazette). I simply believe that Al Gore's solution to the
issue is absolutely wrong.
If Al Gore is so positive about his position, he should start out by
practicing what he preaches and lead by example. Millionaires,
Billionaires and multi-national corporations should not be able to buy
their way out of the problem by simply purchasing "carbon credits".
Or so it seems to me.

"To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the
world."
The following message exemplifies that quote perfectly. Kris wrote; >>>
Hi,
Can you add our name to the Shivercity Gazette. Received a copy
from Diann Bratlie about the bone marrow donor question. My husband's
sister donated her bone marrow about 7 or 8 years ago down in
Arizona. At that time they put a needle into her back and drew out
the cells they needed. It went to a 12 year old girl and saved her
life. She's now in college and is doing great. She looks at Robin
as her "2nd" mother as she gave her life the second time.
Robin had signed up at a golf tournament. They contacted her
after the initial blood sample, and then she went in for more testing
and ended up being a perfect match for her "donee". After a year,
they got to know each others names, after having corresponded all that
time with non-identifying information. They eventually got to
meet.
Thanks,
Kris Heine <<< Thanks a million Kris, for caring and sharing.....
and welcome to the Gazette family tree. Your message will help convince
folks how very important the Bone Marrow Donor program is and should
give them reason to participate in the program.

Gary:
This winter bridge lessons will be available through Grafton Community
Education. My services are free, but they are charging a nominal $10 for
use of the building. It should be fun and anyone can attend. All
materials are provided at no additional charge. Classes start on
February 12th and run every other Thursday at 7pm for 5 lessons. Helping
with coaching will be Jerry Blanchard, Terry Kalbrener and Pat Silewski.
The Grafton Marathon Bridge club has been in existence for 35 years.
Last year we had 2 new couples join the club after taking lessons. This
is a great way to meet new friends and socialize in Grafton. Michael
Leighton <<<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Michael. If there
is anyone out there wanting to learn the "fine art" of Bridge. I've been
told that Michael Leighton is one of the areas best.
