L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.

The question: "What does our community have to offer" gave Denise
reason to share the following. >>>>
Gary:
When you asked the question "what does our community have to
offer?," I was reminded of a binder we have in our home library (not the
library you often refer to). It was a community assessment compiled
while my husband was the chamber exec. and included information about
the community, schools, hospital, activities, etc. It was in a blue
three-ring binder with the Grafton Centennial logo on the front. We
still have several copies if anyone in city government or the chamber
would like to have one. It might be a starting point for a new city
assessment. Have a great day.
Denise Sevigny <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Denise.
I certainly would like a copy of the manual upon which you speak.

It's fun having Joe back in the Gazette again. Sue wants to share the
following. >>>> Hi, Gary
I'd like to add my "vote" for the "Joe Birkeland Memorial
Square", although it would be sad to lose the Getz building (built in
1894). I DO remember sitting with my family on Hill Avenue,
anxiously waiting for "the band". Didn't seem quite so cold back then,
either! <<<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Sue. We must first
resolve the sailboat fuel storage facility issues and then we can
address the best methods of filling the voids.

According to the note I received from Doc Blanchard, It sounds like
there will be sufficient heat to hold the chili feed this coming
Saturday at Heritage Village. Doc wrote; >>> Thanks for all your help
Gary. We still owe some on the furnace but - the new furnace is in and
we are staying "hot" for the chili feed. Harold Doc Blanchard <<<
Thanks a million for all your hard work at the Village Doc. The chili
feed starts at 11am and runs til 1pm at which time the auction will
begin.
Lets hope for a large turnout for the chili feed and for the auction.
If for some reason you are unable to attend this Saturday, you can
always send a check - payable to the Heritage Village Furnace Fund. I'm
guessing your donation is not only tax deductable, it will also make you
feel really warm and cozy all over as well.

Speaking of good things and things that will make you feel good all
over, believe it or not, that is Bologna. And, thats the gist of the
next note from Ernie Barta.
He wrote; >>>
GARY, This is Big Ern, and I just wanted to remind everyone that
the 23rd annual bologna contest is this Friday Night at the Harvey
Ave. Saloon in Minto at 6:00 pm. All The Proceeds go to the boys
and girls scouts of minto.
Last year Chris Misialek of the Harvey Avenue gave the kids..........
(a substantial amount of money)(Ern, I added the substantial amount).
Please don't mention the amount in the Shivercity as Chris does not want
it out!!! <<<< Okay, I didn't mention the amount. However, I certainly
can mention the tremendous amount of effort Chris buts into this event
and I certainly can mention the significant benefit the Minto scout
program receives due to the efforts of Chris and his crew. I can also
tell the whole world they won't find better tasting Bologna anywhere in
the continental USA.
Thats this Friday night January, 16th starting at 6:00pm the Minto
Harvey Ave. Saloon. Tell Chris you heard about it in the Gazette,
and............. he probably will ask you, what the "heck" is the
Gazette.
-----------------------------
When I walked out of the house Tuesday morning and the thermometer
registered minus 35 degrees, for an instant, I thought it would be fun
to be somewhere just a little warmer. Later on I received the following
note from Rick Kettells. Rick & Stephanie own a resort in Branson Mo
although they are currently spending a month or so in Alabama. Rick
wrote: >>>
Gary,
I about froze reading your Gazette. It is 62 degrees here in Gulf
Shores, AL. Zack has been catching some real nice ocean fish outside of
our unit using the big ocean rod& reels and shrimp as bait. Kinda weird
using a bait that I truly LOVE to eat.
Rick <<<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Rick. I find it
interesting that this month you are fishing on the South border of the
US in the Gulf of Mexico, and in March you will be on the North border
of the US at Arnesen's Rocky Point Resort ice fishing. THEN you go back
to Lakeside Resort & General Store in Branson Mo. and fish in the lake
right out your front door. Which,.... gives me every reason I can think
of to suggest... That I am up for adoption you know!!!!
