L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
--------------------------
Monday morning on our way home from the smokehouse, we noticed Emmanual
Cicha driving west down fifth street in front of us. He was driving his
dilapidated old Ford pickup and pulling a trailer. Both were loaded
almost to overflowing with giant bags full of empty aluminum cans. It
isn't unusual to see Emmanual crawling in and out of giant dumpsters
around town collecting empty aluminum cans.
Emmanual has worked very hard all of his life, certainly as hard as he
is able to work. As I followed him west down fifth street, I wondered
how many cans he must have collected over the years. I suspect 100's of
thousands for sure, maybe even millions. I have, on a couple of
occasions personally thanked Emmanual Cicha for his significant
contribution to the environment and our community.
Somehow it simply doesn't seem like that is quite enough. So,... I
thought I would thank Emmanual Cicha, right here in the Gazette, with
the hope that somehow, somewhere, others might see Emmanual and thank
him too.

Speaking of Central School, Fritz Johnson, James Maxwell, Harold Bliss,
Cora Lykken, Larry Panek, Charles Stewart, Agnes Qually, Joe Birkeland,
Grut Anderson, Ed Claussen and a whole myriad of wonderful individual
that taught so many, to do so much, Judy sent us a "recent glimpse" into
the building that has meant so much to so many. She wrote: >>> Gary -
The staff at Central School is excited about changes that have been made
in our building and we invite alumni and interested persons to stop in
and see our new appearance. A walk through the halls and glances into
the remodelled rooms will revive some good memories. The rooms where I
had study hall and English/Literature are now the Library. The wall
between the rooms was removed along with the "stage" in the old English
room. The room that was the Library is now a computer lab. A big change
has been made in the Chemistry Lab. Those of us who took Chemistry in
the 60's (and some before that) will remember the Chemistry lecture room
with the tiered seating. The seating is gone, the wall between the
lecture room and the lab has been removed and both are now a state of
the art Science Lab. Anyone wishing to visit the school should stop at
the office for a pass. The District is grateful to alumni who have been
supportive in the past and we would be happy to accept memorials or
donations to the Alumni Association and will see they go to the
treasurer. Many of the improvements in our schools are a result of these
generous gifts. Thanks Gary - if you and Pat would like to stop by, I'd
be happy to show our building off!
Judy (Anderson) Keizer, class of 1965 and Secretary at Central Middle
School <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Judy. I'm sure that
many of the former students returning for this years SummerFest will
want to visit Central School and see the recent renovations.
Who knows, if it's quite enough, they may even hear Fritz bellering,
"you better clean the mud off those shoes before you come in here
too,.... do you hear me?"

If you get to thinking your a person of some influence, try ordering
somebody else's dog around.

I can't be absolutely positive, however, I "think" we are still looking
for several tickets for Saturday nights Sioux vs Denver hockey game.
