January 26, 2009 - Monday

Todays Gazette comes to you with a reminder of the significant
importance of being a Bone Marrow Donor.
-------------------------
The current temperature is -8 degrees.
The "feels like" temperature is -28.
Yesterdays H/L temperature was -3/-16
Normal H/L temp for this date is 16/-4
It was 46 degrees on this date in 1990.
Notice the "normal" low for this date has started to come up?

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
---------------------------------
The Gazette is a bit late today as I had my last appointment with Dr.
Johnson, my eye surgeon, this morning. He said everything "looks" good,
(no pun intended) and that I will be able to see "like a hawk on the
hunt",..... after Dr Helgeson, from Heartland Eye Care, gives me a new
pair of glasses.
Needless to say, I will be looking forward to a more "transparent"
future, (that pun was intended).
-----------------------------------
On a much more serious note. I received the following note regarding
the formation of a Bone Marrow Donor Drive. Please read the following
message carefully and let your heart lead you in the right direction.
The message; >>>>
Hello, my name is Cathy Stark. Together with DKMS, Mickey Schumacher
and Julie Schuster we are putting together a Bone Marrow Donor Drive .
Sounds scary and intimidating, doesn't it? But did you know that the
first step to being a marrow donor is a simple quick swab of the mouth!
Being a donor means you have the power to give hope to those who have
none and life to someone that without you would not live to see another
day.
Our ultimate goal is to find a donor match for our good
friend/family member Joanie Silewski. But hey if you are not a match
for Joanie you could very well be a match for another well deserving
individual. Joanie is 47 years old and was diagnosed with Acute
lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Her only chance for survival is a marrow
transplant, a friend or stranger like you can save her or someone like
her. Tomorrow a stranger might help save you or someone you love.
Registration is simple and painless.
If you are willing and able to help with the drive, please reply to
this e-mail. Include your name, address, phone number, and e-mail
address.
Give hope. Give life.

Thanks a million for caring and sharing Cathy. Unfortunately, serious
illness, in some way shape or form, effects everyone. Fortunately, most
folks understand that and are willing to do what they can to help.
----------------------------------
I don't know much about computers, as a matter of fact, I often have
trouble spelling it, without spellcheck. Anyway, Eric sent the following
note about the electronic library. >>>>
Gary,
Thank you for putting my last email in the Gazette. The response has
been outstanding! As a result of that response, I would like to share
with your readers a very common problem it seems many of them have been
facing. Microsoft has released a ton of new updates to their Windows XP
Home/Pro/Media Center operating systems that have been slowing many
computers down these days. The problem is that the updates require a lot
more memory to be available in the computer than was previously
required. This does not mean it's time to buy a new computer! If your
computer is running 512MB or less of memory (I can instruct your readers
how to find out by emailing me at eric.burley@wiserworks.com) a simple
memory upgrade can solve much of the sluggishness we've all seen lately.
This has become so very common I would like to offer a deal to your
readers. I will offer memory upgrades for $60 from now until the end of
February. This includes the purchase of the memory AND installation.
Interested parties need only contact me at the email address above and
drop their tower off at my soon-to-be new location in the tower building
(the Alltel store). Computers over 5 years old I cannot guarantee, but I
will take a look at them for free to see if an upgrade is feasible. I
hope you don't mind me asking you to put ANOTHER note in the Gazette,
but I think this can really help out a lot of your readers. Thanks
again!
Sincerely, Eric Burley

Thanks a million for caring and sharing Eric. I suppose if your
computer gets really, really out of wack. You can always bring it across
the hall to Dr Jelinek. They say Chiropractors can cure a variety of
pains, and, Lord knows a computer really can be a pain in the lower
back.

~~~ ATTENTION CARD PLAYERS ~~~
I seem to remember last year wondering how difficult could a game of
cards be that it requires lessons to learn. Since then I must admit, I
have learned that bridge, like chess, requires patience and the ability
to think. SO,.. that leaves me out, but for you folks looking for a
interesting, and challenging pastime. Bridge could well be what your
looking for. >>>>>
Gary:
You may recall that last year we had nice interest to learn bridge with
19 people at our home for lessons. This winter bridge lessons will be
available through Community Education. My services are free, but they
are charging a nominal $10 for use of the building. It should be fun and
anyone can attend. All materials are provided at no additional charge.
Classes start on February 12th and run every other Thursday at 7pm for 5
lessons. Helping with coaching will be Jerry Blanchard, Terry Kalbrener
and Pat Silewski.
The Grafton Marathon Bridge club has been in existence for 35 years.
Last year we had 2 new couples join the club after taking lessons. This
is a great way to meet new friends and socialize in Grafton. Thanks for
everything you do.
Thanks a million for caring and sharing Michael, and thanks a million
for helping to bring a bit more "culture" to our community.
Saturday afternoon I saw a man running down main street so fast, that I
could only assume he had just eaten a whole pailful of peanut butter.
Or so it seems to me
Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they
are,..... before it's too late.
