L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
----------------------
Marvins Windows and Doors held their annual "Profit sharing" meeting
Friday morning in the local high school auditorium. Along with a short
overview of the past years operation. Marvins management thanked
everyone for their hard work and efforts contributing to the companies
success. Then they announced that over 15 million dollars would be
divided amongst Marvins employees. I understand each employee, on
average, would enjoy almost $4,500 in this years profit sharing.
Needless to say, most, if no all of those attending would agree.
Yesterday was one of their better days, working for Marvins. It was also
heartwarming to hear several share their gratitude and thanks to Marvins
Windows, not only at the meeting, but on radio and television as well.
And I might add, rightfully so.
It wasn't til later in the morning that I realized it was the day for
Marvins "profit sharing" message. As I did, I hoped that a significant
contingent of local business people had attended the meeting as well.
I hope they took advantage of the opportunity to thank Marvins
Corporation, and, Marvins employees for choosing Grafton to locate. I
hope our local business representatives were able to share with those
present how important they are to Grafton's survival and, to that end,
is why Grafton agreed to give the Marvins organization $500,000 a year,
among other things, if they would locate hear. I hope they were able to
share the fact that the business community of Grafton was another 'one'
of the deciding factors for Marvins to locate here. And finally, I
really hope, that significant representation of local businesses
extended a very cordial invitation to all of Marvins employees, to
visit, and, to patronize the folks that contribute so much each year to
their profit sharing process.
On the other hand, if there wasn't a significant continent of local
business representation there. I certainly hope everyone (taxpayers)
demands to know why not, and, if they plan on doing so in the future.
Or, so it seems to me.

Chuck Stenso sent the following. >>>
Gary: Don't want to keep going to long on this, but I think you forgot
about the Narveson Insurance Agency also being in the Tollack building
in the 60's. Chuck <<< Thanks Chuck, I certainly did forget, and, I've
even bought insurance from that agency when it was in that building.
Aren't memories wonderful?
------------------------
Speaking of Tollack's, the Collette family, memories, who, what and
where. I received the following note. >>> Hi,
My brother-in-law, Larry Collette, forwarded several editions of
the SHIVERCITY GAZETTE and we enjoyed reading them. Would like to be
added to the list who currently receives the Gazette.
I grew up in Minto (MHS class of 60) and married Bob Collette
(GHS class of 57); we have lived in Bloomington, MN for the last
forty years.
Thanks for adding us, keep up the great work and enjoy a
wonderful Christmas season.
Liz Houdek Collette & Bob Collette <<< Thanks a
million Liz and we will be pleased to add your branch to the Gazette
family tree. Those of you wondering where Liz and Bob have been for the
past forty years. You should have checked in Bloomington.
=========== REMINDER ===========
Brent Hermans, Father Tim and Rose Marie Kerner, along with the entire
community of St. Johns Catholic Church. Would like to invite everyone to
this coming Tuesday's Fantastic Piano Talk & Christmas Concert in St.
John's Parish Center on the south end of Western Avenue. (Right across
the street from Shirley and Larry Durand's house.)
If you've never seen Brent Hermans "caress" the keys of a piano, and
watched the room "explode" as he, and his box full of ivory, wood and
strings become one. "You ain't seen nothin yet."
If you've never seen Brent and Ventzi Nelson "tangle" on dual piano's.
You haven't been quite as close to heaven as you might think you have.
AND, I understand, "The Karas Sisters" will also perform in Tuesday's
Piano Talk.
I'll admit that I haven't heard the Karas sisters sing either. Pat told
me, however, that she was "lucky" enough to hear Emily sing once, and
that Emily's voice could coax the angels down out of the heavens.
Gosh I hope everyone can come and enjoy the fantastic night planned for
this Tuesday, Dec 26 at 7 pm.

"In love I send My only Son
to live and die for you,
And through His resurrection
you will gain a new life, too."

The next Gazette will contain a poem that Shane Shereck wants to share
with everyone. Titled "Christmas in Heaven"
I'm confident, everyone will find as much solice in it's message as I
did.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they are,
before it's too late.
