L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
------------------------
William G. Tollack was born in Grafton in 1889, He graduated high
school in Grafton and Attended St. Olaf College at Northfield Minnesota.
He married Amelia Maresh on Christmas day, 1920. Bill served as a city
alderman, mayor and was instrumental in implementing the communities
"White Way". In 1925 he joined in partnership with Ben Sell tell the
fire of 1935. Then he became sole proprietor until 1947 at which time
George Harris and Ray Collette assumed the management positions.
According to Larry, one of Ray's sons, Tollack's Furniture would, from
time to time feature the work of a local Taxidermist (probably Henry
Williams) which may answer the question about the large wolf in the
window. Tollacks built a new house at 906 Western later occupied by the
Kiewels (Ford Dealers), David and Delores Hvidsten (implement dealers,
the Weisz's and Colleen & Don LaBerge.
Throughout it's existence, the Tollack building has hosted numerous
businesses. The likes of Montgomery Ward, a television sales and repair
store, and office supply store, a misc electronic "stuff" supply
business and Erin Gillie's studio for the art's.
TODAY, according to a super, front page, article in the latest Walsh
County Record, by Stacie Sevigny. Henry's Countrypolitan, a venture
referred to as 'Country with an upscale look' will call the premises on
the west side of the 500 block of Hill Avenue home. The facility will
feature both new and old (antiques). Italian and Norwegian items along
with a Thymes bath and body line. Some Crystal, silver, baby gifts and
even a few greeting cards can be found in Grafton's newest downtown
business venture.
Pat and I would like to congratulate and welcome Jean Ann Ill, along
with her new business venture, to the Grafton community.

Now then, that should be just about enough on the "former" Tollack
building,.. almost. Susan sent the following. >>>
Hi Gary,
Always fun receiving your daily Gazette. We like hearing what is going
on in Grafton--or what has gone in the past 125 years. The Tollacks
story brought back memories of those years (the 50's) and growing up in
Grafton during that era.
Many happy times.
Now I have a present day question. You talked about an announcement of a
new pastor at Grafton Lutheran. I grew up at that church so I have a
natural interest in the welfare of the parish. Do they have a new person
leading the flock? Just curious.
Hope all is well with you and yours.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Susan Ordahl Eggen <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Susan.
Even though I'm not a member of the Grafton Lutheran 'flock', I do hear
a 'chirp' every now and then. The last one was that a new shepard has
been identified.
However, for fear a mistake might send me in the wrong direction, (if
you know what I mean) I am hoping 'someone with the correct facts' will
share them with us. Because inquisitive minds, really do want to know.
Right?
-------------------------
Speaking about church, direction and facts. The fact is, next Tuesday,
December 26, EVERYONE will be able to Enjoy a Beautiful Evening of
Music, Song and Reading.
There isn't a man alive, more entertaining than Brent Hermans on the
piano. For the past few years, St. Johns Catholic Church, and Brent
Hermans has hosted "Piano Talk". An absolutely fabulous compendium of
music and song featuring many local talents of exceedingly high caliber.
Piano Talk is not simply an event intended for everyone in the Grafton
community, but everyone, in the entire area. Often, such talents as
Steve Larson, Ventzi Nelson, Marvin Mielke, Ken Nelson, the Pinta
brothers, Megan Sevigny and Angie Carriere to mention just a few, have
entertained. Truly professional performances in a down home atmosphere.
I'm guessing past Piano Talks have been enjoyed by folks from Seattle
to St. Petersburg and Los Angeles to New York.
If you thought our, 'local talent', presentations of Vessels of Praise
and Carols and Candles were fabulous. I can assure you. Next Tuesdays
nights PIANO TALK (Dec. 26 at 7:00) in St. Johns Catholic Church Parish
Center pomises to meet or exceed your every expectation.
And, everyone will receive a beautiful book of song and verse to take
home as a gift.
Especially fitting, during this time as we celebrate the birth of our
Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Please plan to attend, and, bring a carload of family and friends with
you.
See you there, Pat and Gary
-----------------------
Pat and I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every
member of the Gazette family, a most blessed Christmas. We hope the new
year will be kind to you, with love and health abound.
"We also pray we will find a way, out of this horrible war. That the
Lord will help and guide us, with integrity and show us the door."
- MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE -
From all of us at our house, to all of you at yours. Patti, Gary, Sami
and family
