L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
-----------------------
It appears all of the reading material has been removed from the former
J. C. Penney / Houska's Hallmark / Library Coffee shop building on Main
street. It also appears that the latest rumors of the building, with
regard to it's future, are not found in fact either.
------------------------
There were 354 births reported in the Grafton Hospital last year. 60
more than the previous year, however, 40 births less than the number of
babies born in 1940.
All that, is according to the July 8, 1942 Grafton News and Times. That
same edition also reported the Deaconess Hospital admitted 1,754
Patients for the fiscal year ending June 25, 1942.
--------------------------
The latest word is the Westside Drive Inn will open for the 2007 season
next Monday April 9th. I'm not sure if Ryer decided to open his drive
inn Monday because it is my birthday, or, because it's the day after
Easter.
I also understand this year there will be a new item on the menu. It
will be a smaller version of the Wagon Master. It'll be sort of a "mini
Master", I guess. Doesn't a Westside Drive Wagon Master, Tater Gems and
a Strawberry Milk Shake sound wonderful?

According to the next note from Tammy, the Federated Church is the
place to be tomorrow (Thursday) She wrote; >>>
Subject: Maundy Thursday
Good morning, Gary!
[I have a plug for the Gazette, if you think it would be
appropriate. You always say it works best when it is written by the
readers,so if you are willing to include it, something pretty
wonderful is happening this week. Anyway, here goes, edit as you
choose and thank you so much for the consideration.]
EVERYONE is invited to attend "The Soliloquies of the Twelve
Disciples" at the Federated Church this Thursday, April 5th, at 7:00
p.m.
I will be the first to admit I am completely partial, since I am
honored to be married to thewonderful guy who plays Jesus in this
production. Completely partial, and yep, glad to admit it. But
because of that, I see what he goes through to put this on, and it is
bone-chilling.
This is a re-enactment of the Last Supper--performed Maundy
Thursday of Holy Week as it actually happened--and I cannot even think
about it without getting shivers. It is so real. This is a
magnificent production put on by the heroesof our little town, and it
must be seen to be believed. For those who have seen it before, there
is a TOP SECRET new ending this year, and I can't seem to get so much as
a hint from any of the guys, so I must not have a security clearance.
Kudos to Rev Lee, Mrs. Rev Terri, and all the people who work so
hard to make Easter feel like Easter by reminding us of its Real
Meaning.
Respectfully submitted,
Tammy Henriksen, a/k/a Mrs. Strand Theatre <<< Thanks a million for
caring and sharing Tammy, and there you have it, just as you sent it.

The Federated Church will also host the following according to a "memo"
from Nanci. She wrote >>> Gary - I am planning an art class this summer
based on the Pillars of Character. It is a nice way to tie art and a
valuable lesson into one! Would you be so kind as to run this poster in
your Gazette? I want people around the community to know there is one
more activity for their stir crazy children this summer to attend and as
a bonus it will be fun!
Thank you in advance Gary!

While creating, we will talk about the Pillar that is chosen for the
day. The crafts will range from your very own backpacks to designing and
making your very own watch! Each class will end with a yummy snack!
When: Every Wednesday Starting June 6th through August 9th!
Where: Grafton Federated Church
Cost : $5.00 each class
Who: Ages 4 - 9
*There are only ten slots available for this class so please phone Nanci

I look forward to exploring the reason character really does count while
making some awesome crafts!

The Walsh County Historical Society is having its 40th. Anniversary
celebration on Sunday, April 15th. 2007, at 3 P.M. at the Heritage
Village. There will be a program with thepast presidents
speaking, a parade of nations and also other entertainment. An Ethnic
lunch will follow the program and every one is welcome. There will be a
free will offering. Come and enjoy a fun afternoon.
--------------------------
I still have several $20 baseball tickets available. Besides helping
the kids in the baseball program. Monies generated by things like the
calendar draw also help the rest of the community. "Whenever possible"
that money is spent locally with local merchants.

I am pleased to welcome Gary Grinde to the Gazette family.

The Gazette works best, when the folks that read it, write it. Or so it
seems to me.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they are,
before it's too late.
