April 30, 2007 - Monday - Grafton, ND

Modern medicine has finally made it possible for us to live longer,....
if we give up everything that makes us want to.
-----------------------
The current temperature is 54 degrees.
Yesterdays H/L temperature was 81/37
Normal H/L temp for this date is 62/36
The high temperature on this date in 1985 was 90 degrees. Not exactly
snowman weather.

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
------------------------
Grafton made the Sunday edition of the Grand Forks Herald. It doesn't
happen very often so when it does, it's must really be news.
Herald columnist Ryan Bakken started off his column on page 2B in bold
print, WAL-MART EYES GRAFTON. Holy Smokers I'm thinking. There really
must be something to the "rumor" about Wal-Mart coming to Grafton. If
not, why would a professional writer like Ryan Bakken waste his time,
and ours, writing about it? If there wasn't some credence to the rumor,
why would Graftons Mayor say "maybe"?
I think Ryan Bakken should be commended on his Wal-Mart eyes Grafton
column. And, while someone is doing that. They should also remind Ryan
that Graftons population isn't falling. It is merely readjusting for
modern economic trends and, all the while, Our Growing is Showing.

>>>> One thought on Wal Mart, they don't have a set national price for
many items they sell, they merely check prices in the immediate area and
price their products slightly lower. When they advertise guaranteed
lowest prices, it's only in the immediate shopping area. For example
there are items at the Fargo store which may be lower priced than the
identical item in Grand Forks, a direct result of competition. <<< I
procedure, I might add, that is practice by many if not most
multi-facility operations.
--------------------------
Rumor has it that Ray Gourde is cleaning and painting up another area
of his building on west 5th street. Word is another new business is
cooking up a plan to take up residence there soon.
"Graftons Growing is Showing."
---------------------------
Speaking of new businesses starting up in Grafton. The Country
SmokeHouse is just a few days away from opening their operation on west
5th street. Already several folks have been seen looking in the windows.
It won't be long and they will be able to see the whole operation,
inside and out.
---------------------------
The rumor about Otto's Auto coming to Grafton has finally died. It is
now a fact, as a whole string of great looking cars and pickups fill
their lot. Everything "says" they plan to open on the 1st of May
although I'd be willing to bet, if you see something on the lot you
like, you could get it before Tuesday morning.
----------------------------
Today (Monday) is the last day you can request a ticket for the 2007
Annual Grafton Firefighters Calendar Drawing. If you would like to
participate in this years Drawing for $11,520 in cash prizes. Simply
send me an e-mail requesting the number of tickets and the names you
would like to have on them. THEN, this is important too, make the check
payable to the Grafton Fire Department and mail it to me at -- Gary Moe,
764 Birch Crt, Grafton, ND 58237.
I will fill out the ticket as per your instructions and make certain
that it gets turned in on time for the drawings.
There will be two drawings every day for 6 months. various drawings
will range from $20 all the way up to $500. Everyone will have exactly
the same chance to win every drawing. After your name has been drawn and
recorded. It will be returned to the barrel for the very next draw. If I
remember correctly, someone won twice in the same week in last years
drawing.
Of course it's great if you win. The most fantastic thing, however, is
you are supporting the Grafton Area Volunteer Firefighters and
everything they do.
And that my fine friends,... makes me a very happy father of a
Firefighter.

Speaking of being a very happy person. Gerry sent the following note
from Bismarck. I went to the website as she suggested and I must say,
after reading the article, was pleased beyond words. I strongly
encourage everyone to read and appreciate the content of that story.
Gerry wrote: >>> Hi Gary:
The Bismarck Tribune ran a very inspirational story in the Sunday
Edition about a former Grafton man. In case you are interested, go to
www.bismarcktribune.com and under Bismarck-Mandan Local news, click on
Turning His Life Around. The story is there in its entirety. There
were also several pictures, but these are not included on the web site.
I think the story sends the message that it is never too late to get
back on track no matter how old you are or how far you've strayed.
Gerry in Bismarck <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Gerry.
You were absolutely correct. It was a very inspirational story.

It won't be long and it will be serious enough to set a fish hook.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they are,
