April 27, 2007 - Friday - Grafton, ND

Regret, is little more than insight, one day late.
-----------------------
The current temperature is 51 degrees.
Yesterdays H/L temperature was 78/41
Normal H/L temp for this date is 61/36
The fact that it was 95 degrees on this date in 1952 doesn't mean there
is no-such thing as global warming. It simply means it was warmer then,
than it is now.
Where have all the glaciers gone?

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
--------------------------
Someone, or more, decided to make an unauthorized withdrawal from the
Gate City Bank in Park River yesterday. According to news reports the
bandit entered the bank carrying a gun with his head and face covered.
The report didn't indicate if the gunman would be using the money to pay
for a flight back to bagdad. However, by the description of his attire,
it does sound like that's a possibility.
Although I'm not sure what local law enforcement officials are asking
of the general public. I'm sure they would like to know if anyone sees a
man walking down the street with his head covered, a pistol in one hand
and a bag full of money in the other.
I'm guessing the folks at Gate City will be looking for a security gate
in the future.
--------------------------
It's no secret, this is pothole season. It's a problem for every town
north of the cold line. Graftons GMU Crew has been out filling the
irritating little voids in the blacktop. I remember Hans Hovde used to
call potholes job security.
---------------------------
PLEASE REMEMBER, the North Valley Marketing class is having a benefit
breakfast Sunday, April 29th starting at 9 A.M. The proceeds will go to
the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The breakfast will be held in the
Century Elementary lunch room. You can enter Century Elementary from the
north entrance.

Welcome back Agnes. Hasn't the weather been fantastic since your
return?

From the Mayor's desk:
Gary
LOVE the first line in today's (Thursday) Gazette.
Though, for this Bachelor the rule is modified.
I enjoy Life, Liberty and the Happiness of Non-Pursuit.
I've given up the pursuit thing, but I love the "laying on the couch,
doing nothing but watching 8 baseball games a night on my big screen
TV."
That's probably too long for a pithy little saying.
Todd <<< Thanks a million for the note Todd. I must admit, I didn't have
anyone, special in mind, until I received your note.

If your thinking of selling your house in our neighborhood, you better
be serious. Two houses just down the street have been sold in the past
couple weeks. The ink on the "for Sale" sign hardly had time to dry on
one of them, and, they didn't even get a chance to put a sign up on the
other one. "Our Growing is Showing."

I'll bet some have forgotten that the Grafton Area Volunteer
Firefighters Annual Calendar Drawing will begin May 1. There is still
time to get a ticket. Simply send me a note saying "The checks in the
mail" (payable to the fire department) I will need to know the name or
names you would like on the ticket or tickets.

The "rumor" Wal-Mart is coming to town has generated much interest both
pro and con. Mike wrote. >>>
Gary, my wife works at walmart as you know. She is always running a
little behind schedule. I commend them for their patience with Mrs.
Stauss, bless her heart!! The store is huge now in GF with just about
anything you would ever need. I'm sure almost all of us have been there
a time or two. I can't help but think that employment from walmart in
your city for many people would be a good thing. Also people shop there
for good prices. I recently purchased a set of tires for my
PU truck at walmart and a super deal was sealed for sure. These would
have cost me a little more than 850.00 across town and after a 10
percent discount for assoc. and 10 percent at christmas time for
purchases above a certain amount, and walmarts everyday low prices I
walked out of there smiling for less than 400.00 bucks. The tires are
major brand name also. Gary, I just thought I would put my 2 cents in
for Sam!! Good Luck to Grafton in the future with this possibility. Mike
S. <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Mike.
