L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff
-------------------------
Mitchell South Dakota doesn't have anything over on us. Although they
do have a Cabella store and the world's only corn palace. Actually the
first "worlds only Corn Palace" was built in Sioux City Iowa. After 4
years and a crop failure, the folks in Mitchell SD took over the venture
and it has remained there every since.
Every year, they start from scratch and put a new mural, made entirely
of different grains, on the outside of the Corn Palace. As you can
imagine, the risk of fire is great, so the local fire department made a
rule that no flammable material is allowed on the bottom 10 feet of the
palace. It's just plain old brick...
Now then,..... it is true that Grafton doesn't have a Cabella's,...
yet. However, we do have two very large piles of corn. One just east of
the Curling Club. That one also serves as a giant turkey and pigeon
feeder, and a really, really big pile just west of town.
As a matter of fact, just the other day I overheard someone (at
Granny's) call Tom Grabanski's giant corrugated complex west of town
"The Corn Palace".
If we could get Ann McCann to put some corn "murals" on Tom's Corn bins
we would have a tourist attraction like Mitchell does. Then again,..
maybe not.

~~ REMEMBER FRIDAY NIGHT ~~
Please plan to attend Friday nights Vessel of Praise performance.
This is the 6th Annual Vessel of Praise Advent Service an it has been
set for this Friday, December 5th, 7:30 p.m. at Grafton Lutheran
Church.
The 13 individuals that comprise the Vessel of Praise group are nothing
short of Fantastic Musical Artist's. They come from all walks of life,
earning their living in a variety of vocations.
The Grafton Lutheran Church sanctuary will be decorated for
the Christmas season and they have graciously offered to serve sweets
and coffee in the basement after the service.
Members of Vessel of Praise consider the Advent Service the
highlight of their year, and they have new line-up of songs, including
contemporary and traditional numbers. They work hard all year so that
they may share their music, and the message of hope brought by the birth
of the Christ child with everybody in the local and surrounding
communities.
Everyone in the area is invited to attend and enjoy what has become one
of the areas premiere musical entertainment performances of the year.
Bring your friends and plan to stay after the performance for
fellowship and refreshments.
