December 15, 2008 - Monday

Todays Gazette comes with sincere thanks and appreciation of all the
great folks in Grafton's Municipal Utilities.
-------------------------
The current temperature is -16 degrees.
Yesterdays H/L temperature was -5/-12
Normal H/L temp for this date is 20/3
It was 46 degrees on this date in 1913
Tonights forecasted low is -30.
If you happen run across Al Gore on the beaches of Hawaii, tell him the
only warming we've been experiencing here is from the bull excrement in
Washington.

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
---------------------------
Looking out my window this morning I see bright sunshine in a perfectly
clear sky. Except for the fact that Sami's "P-tree" is 88 degrees colder
than his favorite spot on the hassock in front of the television, it is
pretty nice outside.
Even though some folks say this weekend's blizzard was one of the worst
in a decade. I doubt anyone from our City Hall will be calling
Washington for help from the folks at Fema.
As a matter of fact. Shortly after most of us went to bed last night.
The folks from Grafton's Municipal Utilities Department were just going
to work. By the time most of us woke up this morning, the GMU's crew had
already plowed and hauled away the snowcat dust from downtowns main
street's as well as both Hiway's. Hiway 17 east & west and hiway 81 the
runs thru town north and south.
I wonder if Chris Mathews from MSNBC will broadcast that fact all over
the country. Anyway,... it won't be long and our GMU crew will have the
entire town cleaned up and ready for the next snowfall event. That
is,.... everything except those areas where cars are parked on the
street hampering the snow removal process.
I continue to find it ironic that the folks living in the large
apartment house across the street are allowed to park their vehicles on
the street making it next to impossible for the street department to do
their job. Especially in light of the fact that there are numerous
garage stalls and an even a larger number of empty spaces in the paved
parking lot.

I'm not sure if I read the following, want add, in the Grand Forks
Herald or if it was in the Walsh County Record. At any rate, I thought
it was interesting enough to pass along anyway: >>>> It

For years and years two major railroads serviced the Grafton community.
The Great Northern and Northern Pacific Railway's together hauled much
of the necessary commodities used in and exported out, of Grafton.
Eventually, the BNSF Railroad became to only rail service in town. When
Dakota Northern Railroad came to town and set up shop, Grafton is a two
railroad city once again.

It certainly isn't right, or even fare to blame folks for not
participating in an event that they aren't aware is happening.
"Tell them once to catch their ear. Tell them twice and hope they hear,
and then once more, to get them here."
Or so it seems to me.
