December 23, 2008 - Tuesday

Todays Gazette is brought to you by Ted Hoffman's Trailer City. It was
only just fifty years ago that Ted added the Econ-O-Wash automatic
laundry to his northend trailer court.

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
---------------------------
Even though last weekends storm wasn't as severe as forecasted, it did
leave a significant amount of snowman parts all over town. Most
intersections had snowcat dust drifts deep enough to raise local wrecker
revenues by double digits.
Our street maintenance crews started plowing streets at 2:00 am Monday
morning and all of the major streets and avenues were bladed, loaded up
and the snow hauled to the snow field. With very few exceptions, almost
all sidewalks adjoining local business establishments were also cleaned
up early Monday morning as well. Almost that is,... with the exception
of the sailboat fuel storage facilities presently owned and operated by
the city of Grafton.
Ironically, our community spends 10's of thousands of dollars a year
plowing, cleaning and hauling snow away from city streets with a
professionalism unequalled by any community in the nation.
Unfortunately, such perfection merely affords most folks the ability to
utilize those clean swept streets to get out of town without getting
stuck.
Especially in this day an age, very few folks, if any will park along
side a snowdrift that they must climb over to go shopping. It just
doesn't happen. If a community has committed itself to keeping it's
roads and thoroughfares clean and serviceable, as I truly believe
Grafton has. Then every sidewalk in the business district should be
maintained accordingly. No doing so simply defeats the purpose.
Or so it seems to me.

Evidently no-one remembers seeing.... "The Chart Room A Tribute to
Scouts of the Past. A CHALLENGE to Scouts of today. Feb, 10 1943. 17th
Anniversary."
Those words were painted on a basement wall of the Grafton City Hall.
---------------------
The following "information" also appears on the basement walls of City
Hall.
~~~~~~~ EAGLE SCOUTS ~~~~~~~~
CLAYTON MOE --- ROBERT DAHL
JOSEPH SELLIKEN - ELTON RINGSAK
WAYNE SIEG ------ JAMES MEYERS
WILLIAM BURNS, SAMUEL WESTGATE
STEWART PLACE -- WALLY DESAUTEL
KENNETH DESAUTEL
HAROLD BLANCHARD - FRED STARK
As I am sure every Eagle Scout recipient can attest. You don't get to
be an Eagle Scout by "following" others. It's earned by taking charge of
a task with tenacious perseverance.
Aren't memories wonderful???
I'm guessing I've been asked a hundred times and maybe more. "What have
you heard from the Fox Hunters? When are they coming?" According to the
note I received Monday from Cindy, it won't be long and they'll be here,
with their snowshoes on.
I expect they will be staying at the Leonard Motel again this year
because Grafton's Leonard Motel has become "The Official Ohio Fox
Hunters Habitat" while they are here. Righ?
Hi Gary,
The boys are getting their stuff ready for their yearly trip. The
weather here is COLD, which seems to be the same there. The
excitement is evident in their smiling faces. Not sure yet on the date
they are leaving, which is normal for them. One day they will just say,
we are leaving tomorrow. Hope all is well for you and your family. Have
a nice Holiday and the guys will see you soon.
Cindy
P.S: Cookies are baked in the freezer and ready to go. <<<<
Thanks a million for caring and sharing Cindy. I know all about the
"gotta get going right away" business. Now then,... about those cookies.
Don't forget to take them out of the freezer and put them in one of the
trucks. OH,... don't forget the laptop either. If my memory serves me
right, last years cookies and the laptop got here a couple days
later,..... delivered by a government vehicle. (US Mail)
P.S. I talked to Troy at Granny's and Susie at MarketPlace on 8th and
the folks at the Leonard Motel. All three tell me they're ready and they
say there is lots of room for a whole lot more "Fox Hunting Friends from
Ohio."
I'm not sure if Santa had me on his schedule this year or not, BUT
Gunner did. Thanks a million Gunner. After the lump in my throat went
down, it fit just perfect. Little Eb is right. You are,.... a "really,
really nice guy". Thanks again Gunner and Merry Christmas.
GOTTA GO WORK ON MY DASH
=======================
Just two more sleeps and Santa will be delivering toys to all the good
little girls and boys. If you should see him, tell him I WILL try harder
next year.
Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they
are,..... before it's too late.
