December 22, 2008 - Monday

Todays Gazette comes with best wishes for a blessed and Merry
Christmas.
-------------------------
The current temperature is -11 degrees
Yesterdays H/L temperature was -1/-13
Normal H/L temp for this date is 18/0
It was 48 degrees on this date in 1901
The forecast for Christmas day, as always, calls for "peace on earth
good will toward man". Fortunately, many folks around the world continue
to strive for the Christchild's dream. Unfortunately, we have yet to
achieve His goal.

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.

With only "3 sleeps" til Christmas, it's time to take out your list and
start checking it twice. I know,... some folks will want to remind us of
the "REAL" reason for the season. AND,.. to them I would say. "Please
remember, it was the three kings from the Orient that came bearing gifts
on the very first Christmas day.
Anyway, I received the following note from Kalispell, Mt. >>>>>
Where can I get the Grafton Bucks? Are Grafton Bucks good at Granny's?
My dad is definitely a regular there! Thanks! I always enjoy the
Gazette!
Cheri Nelson <<<<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Cheri. I
checked with our local Chamber and this was their response. >>>>
Subject: Re: Grafton Bucks
Good morning Gary,
Grafton Bucks can be purchased at the Chamber. They are in $2.00
increments and are redeemable at any area business. If there are any
questions, they can call the Chamber at (701) 352-0781. Thank you for
the inquiry. Have A Happy Holidays and stay warm.
Barb <<<< Thanks a million Barb. The Happy Holiday part, will be easy.
The staying warm part, will be a bit more of a challenge.
Anyway, the Grafton Bucks idea certainly is a good one. It is a
fantastic method of sharing and caring, for those of you living a long
way away. One size fits all, and,.. they come in everyones favorite
color, "dollar bill green".

It is a special time of the year, a time to be thankful for all that
are here. It's also a time to reflect and remember, that it was He who
was born giving us a truly special reason for the season.
I've shared the following words several times over the years. They have
a special meaning for me and I hope you might find a bit of solace in
them as well.
~~~~~~~~ Remember those ~~~~~~~~
Remember, those that are not here.
The ones, we have all held so dear.
Remember, even though they're gone,
their wish for us,.... life must go on. Remember those
that taught us well,
and picked us up each time we fell.
Remember Christ, this Christmas day,
sent by the Father, to light the way. Remember we're all
here for a reason,
to love one and all, this Holiday Season.
They're simple words that say so much.
They help us remember those we've loved so much.
So as we pray this Christmas day, for health and wealth and wisdom.
Lets not forget His goal for us, is to meet again in His Holy Kingdom.
~~~ THANK YOU WALLY & IONE ~~~
Pat and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Wally and Ione
DeSautel for allowing us to share such a fabulous day. Wally & Ione
invited Pat and me, along with several dozen family members and friends,
to attend the Lorie Line, Christmas Around the World Concert at the
Chester Fritz in Grand Forks Sunday afternoon.
A warm and comfortable MCI bus picked us up at Wally & Ione's home in
Grafton and dropped us off at the front door of the Chester Fritz
Auditorium. After the "out of this world concert" we boarded the bus and
then taken over to eat dinner.
Before we started eating, Wally stood up and "thanked us" for coming.
Next we sang three patriotic songs and then Pastor Moe said "the words"
before dinner. Then we boarded the bus for our short journey home. I
just couldn't help thinking as I looked at Wally & Ione in the front row
of the bus, that there sits a man and his wife, having both worked very
hard all their life. Yet even tho' now when it would be just as easy
not, they continue their caring and sharing a lot.
Thanks a million Wally & Ione from Pat and me. Thanks for a wonderful
day and a fantastic way to share a really magnificent reason for this
magical season.

With a saddened heart I share Nancy's message of the passing of Nora
(Mrs Walt) Jorgensen.
Nancy Fletcher wrote: >>>>
With great sadness (and relief because her struggle is over), my
brother and I want you to know that Nora died peacefully this morning at
12:20 a.m.
Nora Elizabeth Jorgensen, a fiery wife, mother, and business woman,
died in Grand Junction, CO on Dec. 21 of dementia.
Walter Jorgensen, her son, said she died in the loving care of her
daughter, Nancy Fletcher, and the case managers of Alpine Hospice.
Nora Elizabeth Jacobson was born May 23, 1919 in Duluth, MN to David
and Alina Jacobson and was raised in Wawina, MN. Her early life included
work at Hill Mercantile and the First State Bank, both in Floodwood, MN.
She married Ralph Jarvi and her first child, Joan Ellen Jarvi, was born.
She later met the love of her life, Walter Jorgensen, and they were
married in 1947 and had two children. In 1958 they bought the Basell
Hotel & Bar in Grafton, ND, and the family lived there until Nora and
Walt retired to northern Minnesota in 1972.
Walt and Nora had happy years together after their retirement until
Walt died in 1989 of congestive heart failure. Nora spent the next
fifteen years in Minneapolis, MN., before moving to assisted living in
Grand Junction, CO. in 1995 when her dementia developed.
One of life's biggest pleasures for Nora was time spent at her Red
Lake cabin in northern Minnesota. She loved to fish, play cards, and
cheer on the Twins and Vikings. She always enjoyed entertaining friends
with good food and drink. She always said, "Life is great; you just
can't weaken."
Survivors include her son, Walter Jorgensen, the owner of Palisade
Pharmacy in Palisade, CO; her daughter, Nancy Fletcher, the president of
OAAA in Washington, DC; nine grand children, nine great-grandchildren,
and one great-great grandson Marcus Moe. Her daughter, Joan Moe of
Grafton, ND, died at 46 from complications to lupus.
Arrangements are being handled by Callahan Edfast Funeral Home in
Grand Junction, CO. A celebration of her life is planned in June at
Pelican Lake in northern Minnesota after burial next to her husband in
Buhl, MN.
Donations may be sent to Alpine Hospice, 602 Jackson Street, Clifton,
CO 81520. <<<
