L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
--------------------------
Charles Stewart called yesterday and informed me of the possible
existence of a large sign that spanned hiway 17 in the general area of
Mac's Bottle shop and Simonsons brand new (when completed) Subway
Sandwich shop. Charles remembers the "Grafton" sign was constructed with
red neon letters, large enough so that they could be seen from as far
away as hiway 44 approximately 10 miles east of Grafton.
It is Charles understanding that the sign may, in fact, still be stored
in one of Graftons Electrical department buildings. If so, it seems to
me, a more logical home for such a valuable relic might be in Grafton's
Heritage Village collection of interesting area memorabilia.
In fact, it might even lend itself to becoming a very interesting
exhibit in and of itself. Question; Does anyone remember ever seeing
such a sign. Either at the time it welcomed visitors to Grafton, or,
maybe while it was being stored in the City Hall building or later when
it found it's way into some other city building?
Any information anyone can share would be very much appreciated.

With low temperatures in the double digits,... below zero. The hottest
topic at coffee is all about Al Gores "panic pitch" on global warming.
Of course the globe is warming. The Great Lakes is massive proof of
that. The real irony, as I see it anyway, is that "we" (citizens of the
United States) actually believe we (Americans) can control the fantastic
forces of nature.
"We" have spend 100 of billions of dollars trying to convince a few
nations that they should live and believe as we do. History has proven
numerous other civilizations have tried doing the very same thing and
they failed,.... too.

Gary -
Your recent reference to Al Gore and the global warming
created by Washingtons Bovine Defecation reminded me of an old Charlie
Brown cartoon by Charles Schultz - "Doing a good job around here is
like wetting your pants in a dark colored suit; It gives you a nice warm
feeling but nobody notices"! Keep up the good work - Keith

Thanks a million for caring and sharing Keith. If you get a chance to
talk to one of the folks from the "Green" Movement. Please remind them
that almost anyplace they drive, they are driving on roads built with
"fossil fuels". The last time I checked. We / they haven't been able to
come up with a way to build hiways and byways with windmills or solar
panels.

Lyle Anderson, writing from the great state of Idaho, shared the
following. I understand rumor has it that the potatoes grown in Idaho
are second, only, to those grown in the Red River Valley of the North.

Gary,
It's nice to get your newsletter every day, like a lot of people I
look forward to reading what's happening up in your neck of the
woods. My home town of Warren is close enough to Grafton that it's
almost like hearing from home.
Not much snow here in Sun Valley, Id. but with the 2-3 inches of
real snow and snowmaking equipment on the mountain, it finally got
open to the skiers. We not only need the snow for recreation, but the
farmers down below need the water they get from us. We are in need of
5-6 good snow years to get things back to normal. I don't know if Gore
has control of the weather, but he sure has the public running
scared. I wonder how much he has made to line his pocket book
with his nonsense. I like your description of him, fits him
perfectly.
I looked at some old Gazette articles from last summer, you were
getting the combine ready in may. We are coming to Warren next summer
for my 50 yr. class reunion, maybe I'll have to come and snag a few with
you at the lake.
Have a Merry Christmas, and may the Lord Bless you and your family.

Thanks a million for caring and sharing Lyle. I must share with "our"
group that I met Lyle and his lovely wife Janet a couple of years ago
while they were enjoying a stay at Arnesen's Rocky Point Resort.
Although we only spent a relatively short time together, Lyle's note is
absolute proof that it only takes a few minutes at Rocky Point to build
a lasting relationship.
Please tell Ray Burwell Hi from Pat and Gary when you get back to
Warren. I will be looking forward to seeing you at Arnesen's Rocky Point
this summer. AND, Lyle, I can absolutely guarantee the fishing WILL be
fantastic. I am just as positive that you will enjoy yourself.
Unfortunately,..... I can't be quite as categorical about the catching.
Speaking of fishing, it's not to late to book your ice fishing trip at
Arnesen's Rocky Point Resort and Rock Harbor Lodge. Check out their new
web site at arnesens.com someone said they even have a picture or two of
me in there too.

Or so it seems to me.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they
are,..... before it's too late.
