L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
--------------------------
Part of Stan Pastoreks Construction crew is still installing the new,
bright red, roof on the Pizza Hut. Now we'll be able to eat their once
around the kitchen under their fancy new red roof.
--------------------------
The lights at the park are dark and almost everything has been removed.
Unfortunately, everything wasn't removed by the folks that installed it
in the first place. Rev Lee sent the following. >>>
Gary,
A few of our dedicated men went to the park this past Saturday to
remove our Nativity Display and return it to it's place of storage.
On arrival there was once again a sense of sadness. Baby Jesus was
taken from the manger. A comment was made that the person who needed
the figure is in more in need of Jesus then they may think. It must
have taken them some time to remove the figure as it took a lot to
unfasten it from the wire that attached the baby figure to the
manger. After speaking with some of the board members it was
unofficially decided that the Federated Church will not participate in
the park next Christmas season. I will make a recommendation to the
full board that we not participate to make it official.
Please join us in praying for those who are in more need then we.
Who pray on others traditions and make a joyful celebration somewhat
saddened.
Grace and Peace
Rev. Lee <<latest vandalism your wonderful presentation of the nativity. I truly do
believe the Leistikow Park 'Holiday lighting' project could once again
be something people would be willing to drive several miles to see.
However, in my opinion, it will require significantly more input,
planning and execution than was evident the past few years. Again, in my
opinion, one person, or more, working out of one lonely office cannot,
and should not, be expected to orchestrate the kind of community light &
decoration presentation required to draw crowds from throughout
northeastern ND and northwestern MN.
I believe it will take significant personal commitment from every
single member of the business community. The kind of commitment that
says. "The business community of Grafton North Dakota is working hard to
'show the world' that we really do want your business, and, we are
willing to put forth the amount of effort required to earn it." With
less than 12 months to formulate plans and initiate programs, time is
short. Especially in light of the fact that significant efforts will be
required preparing for Grafton's 125 year celebration this summer.
I believe this summers 125 year celebration will be one worth
remembering. I certainly hope, everyone else does as well.

I believe that the really good things in life can only get better if we
seek out that which isn't, and improve it. It is also true that if we
spend to much time patting ourselves on the back. We will only end up,
with a sore back. The next message suggest "we" have ample room for
improvement. It started out. >>>> True Sportsmanship???????
Hi Gary, I wrote to you before and commented on your hockey
rink. Well the reason I write to you today is that I was at one of the
BEST hockey games played all year (Grafton and Red River). I must
also add what a nice Zamboni you guys have now. Getting to the reason I
write is. When I was sitting watching the game, I noticed that some of
the Grafton parents were on the kids from Grand Forks to sit down in the
student section. Then I turned to look at the section the students
from Grafton, Park River, Minto, and Drayton had, it seemed funny that
no one was trying to make them sit down, that might be hard as they took
up 1/5Th of the sitting. But anyway, as we were walking out, and,
on the ride home with my friends all we talked about was how rude it was
for those few people that went up to the kids, to tell them to sit down.
When those kids pointed to the other end, showing that they too were
standing, and, then the (PARENT) would turn and go back to his seat
making a motion like he would like to punch the kid. I guess the
sportsmanship is only for the few people out on the ice!!
If you want u can use my name but I prefer u simply say someone from
Grand Forks.
Thanks and keep up the great work. I enjoy reading the emails. <<<
Thanks a million for caring and sharing. Unfortunately, the very system
our educational environment has designed to foster physical finesse and
sportsmanship in our youth, has in some cases, developed a brain
flatulence in the parents of "our" youth.
-------------------------
This one too, relates to Grafton's hockey program, or part thereof. >>>
The pee-wee Bantam B's hockey team from Grand Forks, the Royals, which
my son Justin is a member of entered the city limits of Grafton on
Friday nite the 5th of Jan. about 7:30 pm. After hearing the big talk
from some boys on our team and watching the game it seems a can of
something or other was opened up and things didn't progress as planned.
I was impressed with the Grafton team and also the coaching, It showed
they were a well coached team. We left the city limits about 10:00 pm
with more than a few tails tucked if you know what I mean. The boys are
still learning the game. Hope this finds you well Gary. Mike S. <<<
Thanks a million Mike. It's always great hearing nice things from
wonderful people. Especially when they are fellow sugar tramps such as
yourself.

The mention of Friendships need for a new manager gave "Goober" reason
to send the following response. >>>
Yes Gary, after 21 years with Friendship Inc. I have started a new
career with Ecolab. I officially started today as a service specialist.
If any one out there is in need of pest elimination I should be through
all my training by the time the kill season will be starting. It was a
tough decision but hopefully will leave me with more time for family
which missing numerous functions over the years finally got me to take a
different job. I hope people will still remember Friendship when it
comes to fundraising as we (oops) I mean they provide alot of excellent
services to the individuals which are not reimbursed by the state. When
I first started working for Friendship we just worried if they could
keep their ears and elbows clean. Now we are involved with developing
social roles such as raising funds and being involved with the American
Diabetes Walk in Grand Forks. It has been a wonderful evolvement I have
seen over the years to see the individuals being looked at as people
with abilities not disabilities. Thanks for letting me respond to the
want ad. Goober. <<< Thank you Goober (Joey) I hope you won't be looking
at me as the first "pest" to eliminate.
------------------------
This one comes from Dave French. Evidently he is so busy selling cars
he doesn't have time to write,... much. He wrote. >>> HI GARY, Just a
note to say HI to all the Ohio Fox Hunters from me. I hope the hunt goes
well for them. Thanks Dave French <<< Thanks Dave, I will be sure they
see and hear your greeting. So far, in a nutshell. The hunt is going
well, the furs are fine and walking in the sunshine makes things sticky
& icky,.... if you know what I mean.
