April 4, 2006 - Tuesday

Subject: SHIVERCITY GAZETTE

Tuesday's missing edition.
------------------------
So far, I have received dozens of notes saying the Gazette was not
received. I have received several similar to the following. >>> Hi Gary,
We didn't get the Tuesday version of the Gazette. My theory is
that there is too much water in the ditches for efficient data transfer
from Grafton to St. Thomas. We wouldn't mind checking out the
Tuesday edition on your website, but I have forgotten the web
address. Could you give us that address again? I will put it
in our Favorites this time. Thanks.
Allen <<< Thanks Allen. Water in ditches shouldn't be a problem. I
always send them "air-mail". Anyway Several others have asked for the
web site address, so along with Tuesdays Gazette, you can find most of
the past issues at newsfromgrafton.com
Sorry for all the confusion but Tuesdays didn't get on the web site
either. I hope we are back on the right track again.

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
----------------------
Main street and many of it's "tributaries", are starting to look
like we're expecting company. Gosh we have a terrific Grafton Municipal
Utility Department. Everyone is out making Grafton look good for our
summertime visitors.
----------------------
The number of construction crew service vehicles around the Pizza
Hut has escalated the past few days. There's also a motorhome in the
parking lot that appears to be used as an office to "recruit" new help
when it opens. I'm thinking it won't be long before we start smelling
warm cheese and pepperoni from their exhaust fans.
------------------------
We are still not expecting any serious flooding in the Grafton
area. The river level has been going up and down like a yo-yo. Still no
water on 5th street by the park.

In 1974 the Grafton Chamber of Commerce purchased Larson's
Pianoforte Studio (Ernie not Steve) located at the corner of 6th and
Griggs. The building I usually refer to as Louie Regelstads City Service
Gas Station.
------------------------
Arleen Torkelson and Sharon Johnson were named valedictorian and
salutatorian, respectively of the 1959 graduating class in Grafton.

Dear Gary, We have returned home after another great winter in
the desert. Got together with the usual Grafton locals who now make
the desert their home but the Raumins were the only visitors this year.
The annual North Dakota get-together was hosted by Jan Barnes and
Dick Wolsky and as l80 people attended, it will now have to be held at a
public venue. Miss Benson, an English teacher in the 50's attended
for the second year in a row. Lloyd Durands younger brother Larry,
and his wife Shirley (Demester) Durand, Jimmy Janikowsk, Phyllis
Campbell and the Raumins of course were the only Graftonites that came
from a distance. It was a fun evening and so nice of Jan and Dick to
host it. Anyhow, I sure would appreciate your returning my name to
your long list of subscribers. Thanks, Lea Fairbairn <<< Thanks a
million for caring and sharing Lea. And, welcome back to the Gazette
family. I did receive a nice US Postal note from Dick inviting us to
next years function.
--------------------
I received the following "trivia" from several folks in the
past few days. >>>
On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds
after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06.
That won't ever happen again. <<< I haven't decided if I will stay up
for the event yet or not. I may just catch a rerun of it on CNN
Thursday.
---------------------
Thanks a million to Richard and Elaine Thompson for joining this
years Legion baseball program, and, for your generous donations to this
weeks worthy benefits. Thanks also to Danny and Alice Lessard for
helping the Legion baseball project as well as Lynn and Celeste
Flanagan.
I also received a check this week from Lorraine and George
Campbell of Bluffton, SC. for this years baseball program and calendar
draw, as well as money to help in this weeks Wharam family benefit.
I should add that it's still not to late for anyone to help with
this years Legion Baseball. Likewise of course. It's not to late to show
your support and help the Wharam and Schrank families.

I am saddened to report the passing of Marietta (Mrs. Paul)
Campbell, one of Graftons finest Ladies. If the world was full of people
like Marietta, it might well be called heaven. Her friendly smile and
God-given drive and talent for caring and sharing are but a few of
Marietta's long list of legacies.
Our daughter Wendy wanted to share her thoughts of Marietta. Wendy
wrote: >>> I just have to comment on the passing of Marietta
Campbell....When I read your line at the end of every Gazette....working
on your dash...it has occurred to me that Mrs. Campbell has a DASH
second to none in my opinion and if anyone would ever doubt what kind of
a woman she was, check with the church and all she did for others. Her
mothering skills have proved second to none by the AWESOME children she
raised. A family that TRULY has one nicer then the next and only knowing
the boys of the family i can say they all married equally kind, loving
women. And her smile, grace, generosity and kindness has had an enormous
trickle down effect to her grandchildren. My daughters have gone to
school with Tom and Bills kids and the girls say you would be hard
pressed to find any nicer more caring kids.... OK I'm done now except to
join in with the community and wish her God Speed. I personally didn't
spend alot of time with her, but her warm smile and friendly hello is
one that I will always miss.
I only hope I can have a DASH to be proud of. Love,
Wendy <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Wendy. To that I too
will add. "Z Panen Bogym" Marietta and thanks for the memories. Pat &
Gary Moe and family.

GOTTA GO WORK ON MY DASH
==================================
The Gazette works best, when the folks that read it, write it. Or
so it seems to me.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they are,
before it's too late.
