February 11, 2008 - Monday

--------------------
Todays Gazette is being brought to you, in part, by the 2008 RELAY FOR
LIFE.
--------------------
The current temperature is -7 degrees.
Yesterdays H/L temps were -12/-21
Normal H/L temp for this date is 21/2
The hi on this date in 2002 was 50.
All local beaches and outdoor pools will remain closed until the water
softens up.
==========================
L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
----------------------
We are entering the third week of Raumin Gone. Surprisingly, so far at
least, the cost of land, land rent, wheat, beans and gas hasn't quit
going up since the very beginning of Raumin Gone.
-----------------------
======= HOCKEY SCORE =======
The Grafton - Park River, Spoilers beat the Grand Forks, Red River
Roughriders in hockey Saturday afternoon 3 to 2. Once again, I don't
fully understand how it works, but I'm told we would have had to win be
2 (two) points in order to REALLY win. I guess something about whether
we play the next game in the Purpur of Ralph Arena's. Anyway my fishing
buddy, Ryan Hills, smacked in the winning goal with less than a minute
to go in the game.
--------------------------
Speaking of this years RELAY FOR LIFE. Several of the folks out at
Marvin Windows and Doors are participating in the event again this year.
Along with Marvins employees contributing monetarily, several members of
the Marvins team have put together a cookbook full of scrumptious
recipes.
The proceeds will be going to benefit the effort to eliminate cancer.
Marvin Windows and Doors Relay for Life cookbooks are on sale for $10
each. They will be available Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm at
the front desk.

Question of the day: Who, un-be-known to him, dragged the 2X4 (Central
School door lock) around behind his car for two days?
-----------------------
RALPH, isn't just for Hockey anymore.
The world curling championships will be hosted at Ralph and Betty's
complex.
I received the following notes relating to the significant curling
event from Don Barcome Jr. via George Cox.
Don wrote>>>
HI - I just had a call from Jimmy Satrom with the news that he has
signed up our number 1 choice for MC: Mr. John Aasand of Grafton and
Extra End fame! John will bring his special talent derived from
decades of curling knowledge combined with the gift of gab and love of
people, to the Betty Engelstad Arena for the Opening Banquet on Friday,
April 4th at 8pm. <<<<
George added the following. >>>>
Gary, maybe you can use this information in your Shivercity Gazette
sometime in the near future. By the way, Diane (Rudnik) and myself
are looking for volunteers for working two lounges during the 10 day
curling event. Volunteers will each receive a World Curling jacket,
tickets to all draws and all this for only $50. I can be reached by
email at gcox@gra.midco.net or phone 701-787-0395.
So excited that John will be the MC - Ever think of having a
special event in Grafton during the World Curling event? Something
special at the Extra End, Curling Club - dedication of State/National
Champions that have come out of Grafton. Lots of curling history in
Grafton!

WOW,... The World Men's Curling Championships, right here in our own
back door. AND, Grafton's own John Aasand will be the events opening MC.
Congratulations John.

I have always said, "The next best thing to knowing someone important,
is knowing someone that knows someone important." To that I could add, I
know John,.... and,... it's up to you to decide what that actually
means.
--------------------------
I ran out of reading material in the Gazette library. So I started
thinking about the good old days,... again.
I can still remember, back in "the good old days" when a energetic
individual could actually "volunteer",.... for free.

GOTTA GO WORK ON MY DASH
==========================
Lesson of the day: If you feel like you really have to point,..... use
your thumb.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they
are,..... before it's too late.
