March 5, 2007 - Monday - Grafton, ND

Todays Gazette is brought to you, in part, by the many
contributions members of the Mattson families have given to our
community.
----------------------
The current temperature is -4 degrees.
Yesterdays H/L temperature was 32/0
Normal H/L temp for this date is 29/12
This date in the year 2000 it was 62°.
The national weather service has assured us, eventually, all the
snow we have received will end up in Lake Winnipeg. We're hoping it
doesn't have to go through everyone's house here first.

The Mattson name along with many Mattson family members have
been an integral part of our community for longer than most folks can
remember. As early as 1918 when Eddie and Bennie Mattson started Mattson
Bros. Garage selling and repairing Ford cars and Hart Parr tractors.
Later the Mattson name was connected with the Hupmobile automobile.
Mattson Implement Co., originally owned by Bennie and later taken over
by Truman and Elvin. They handled the Minneapolis Moline and Allis
Chalmers line. Later Elvin and his sons, Allen and Maurel also became
significant players on the Grafton business scene.
Eddie Mattson's 15 year contribution as a city councilman combined
with his 56 years of service to the Grafton Volunteer firedepartment
pales when compared to what might be considered "the most important
contribution our city has ever enjoyed," that being credited with saving
the municipal light plant for the city of Grafton.
I have known a great many members of the Mattson family over the
years. I have never known one of them to ask for anything for
themselves. In fact, It has been my observation that they tend to work
very hard at doing more than their fair share for others.
I am saying all this because,... I truly believe it's something
someone needs to say. Because I truly believe there is, or certainly
should be, merit in the old saying, "what goes around, comes around."
I'm saying it, because Becca, the beautiful young daughter
of Steve and Elaine Mattson was in a very serious automobile accident
and is in need of our prayers and our help. I received the following
information, and was asked if I might share it with members of the
Gazette Family. Would I? There should be no doubt!

SPAGHETTI FEED/SILENT AUCTION

2007 5:30 – 9:00
Let's help
Becca Mattson
Daughter of Steve & Elaine (Daley) Mattson (Granddaughter of Allen & the
late Hildegard Mattson and the late Ralph & Violet Daley)
Becca was in a tragic car accident and has a long recovery ahead of her.
To help with her family's medical expenses we've set up the Becca
Mattson Fund at
Western State Bank in West Fargo.
Your donations are greatly appreciated.
To make a donation contact Karen (Ellefson) Brown @ (701) 799-6063 or
Karol Dupree-Robinson @ (701) 257-6446
++++
It's my understanding that Matt, Sylvia and Maurels son, may be
able to get something from Dale Earnhard for the auction as Matt is a
part of that organization.
Please keep Becca on your thoughts and prayers. And, if you can,
plan to be at The Speedway Event Center at 680 Main Ave
W. in West Fargo
