L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
--------------------------
I just heard on the news that Grand Forks' Mayor Brown will be giving
another "state of the city" report Monday. That makes me wonder. Does
Grafton ever have "state of the town" reports?
--------------------------
It's no longer a rumor, or a secret, that the Country Smokehouse is in
the process of remodelling the building Russell Lykken once sold cars
for Glenn Mohagen in. The building, originally known as Mohagen Motor
Company, was later purchased by Russell and he continued to operate
their until 1951 when his 'new' Lykken Pontiac Dealership was
constructed across the street.
Since then, Wilson Bros. Auto parts occupied the facility, as did
Filter Care and eventually it became part of the Heritage Ford Chrysler
Dealership.
Country Smokehouse will carry a full line of freshly cut, quality
meats. They will also be making all of the Country Smokehouse Sausages
as well as several other smoked products on a daily basis.

Speaking of history and the way it was. Scott Hove sent the following
note, with a hope. >>> Greetings from Las Vegas!
Gary, I was looking through some files yesterday and came across a
number of Treasurer*s Reports related to School District 114. I
believe this was the one-room school house formerly located about one
mile north of South Trinity Lutheran Church and just north of the former
farmstead belonging to the Monson family.
Anyway, my grandfather, Albert Hove (he spelled it Hovey at the time)
was the District Clerk and thus kept the records which eventually wound
up in my father*s files (Millard Hove). Other names on the documents
include Mons Monson, President; Albert Viger, Henry Lee, County
Treasurer Tollack, etc.
Is there someone at the Historical Society who might like these? I
don*t know who to contact so if your readers have any ideas I would love
to get these things back to where they belong! I can be reached at:
scott@scotthove.com
Thanks! Scott Hove <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Scott.
I gotta think someone, would really want to have those records saved for
posterity. I'm not sure who, or where they would be best kept Scott.
Maybe Harold Blanchard could help us find the proper home for them. and
at the same time let us know how the last Heritage Village Fish Fry
project went. Right Harold?

Some have already responded, and, I'm sure many more will. However,
just in case some folks missed it earlier. I'll send out another
REMINDER.

==== HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ====
Today is the day Greg and Kris Roufs celebrate the anniversary of their
anniversary. Congratulations Greg and Kris, your aunt and uncle love you
very much.
---------------------------
It's always great hearing from folks that would like to receive the
Gazette. It's really wonderful when they send 'us' a bit about who they
are, where they are, and, if possible, share a part of their world with
us.
For instance, the other day when Wally posed the question about the guy
in the poker room.... So far no-one has answered the question,.. not
even Wally.
Anyway, the subscription department (that's me) sent over the following
requests. >>> Subject: Grafton doings
Gary
Carol Gallagher told me that you send out a newsletter about Grafton.
I would like to be on the list.
Russell Lefevre <<< Thanks Russ, welcome to the Gazette family. You will
find a lot more babble than news.
++++
It's always wonderful hearing from a Walsh County Record subscriber.
>>> Subject: Shivercity Gazette
Hello Gary, Ann Marie Settingsgard sent Susan and I an e-mail in
which she told us about your Shivercity Gazette. She included your
e-mail address so that we could be added to your listto receive
e-mail news. We are still subscribers to the Walsh County Record and
find it interesting to read what is happening in and around Grafton.
We would like to be added to your list and are looking forward to
receiving the Shivercity Gazette.
Robert and Susan (Countryman) Torkelson <<< Thanks a million for being
so brave Robert. As a matter of fact, several times over the course of
the past few years I have mentioned both the Torkelson and Countryman
families. The readers digest version of that of course would be. Our
community is a much better place to live because of the contributions
your families have made to it. P.S. Please keep reading the Record

This one, from Don in sun country, was especially surprising.
Subject: Re: Hank and Jan want in--- your pool-
Gary,
Today the local KC'S had another of their spaghetti dinners at Holy
Cross Church.
Other guests at our table, by surprise, were Hank and Jan Korczak,
Grafton, ND. (Their address in the summer time.) Would you please add
them to your list?
I had asked them if they were getting the "GAZETTE"? They were unaware
and immediately asked if I would send you their local e-mail address. It
was great seeing them again! Don Kitzman <<< Thanks a million Don,
Of course I will be pleased to include Hank and Jan to the Gazette
family list. I mentioned earlier that your note was especially so maybe
I should explain.
Pat and I had just returned from our, regular, sometime very often,
drive around town. As we passed by Hank & Jans home, I noticed their
driveway and entrance was shovelled squeaky clean. I tuned to Pat and
said, "either the Korczak's are home from the south early,... or,
someone else is planning on moving in. Of course, there might be a third
option as well, but then again I'm sure Hank or Jan will let us know
that one. Right Hank?
++++
And last but not least. I am pleased to welcome Marlene and Dale Aasand
back into the Gazette family.
