showing
----------------------
The current temperature is 41 degrees.

Today will be sunny, cloudy, calm and breezy with a 40% chance it
won't snow, much, tonight.

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
-----------------------
Signs of spring are already showing up around town. Blackbirds can
be seen bathing in area puddles upon their return from the sunny south.
A few snowbirds have started returning as well. Art and Dody Tallackson
returned to their nest late last week, and, the way it looks, Art hasn't
forgotten how to shake dice over the winter.
Potholes are also starting to 'spring up' (pardon the pun) on area
streets. The person that said there are only 44 sounds in the English
Language obviously never had to drive North Dakota streets in the
spring. Every pothole seems to generate yet another sound. Some,.. in
the english language and some,.. from the vehicles trying to traverse
them.
-----------------------
The building that once housed Gillespie's Meat Market and later
the Grandy Travel Agency is presently being refurbished, redecorated and
will become the new home for Ryan Heuchert's Farmers Union Insurance
Agency. Crews could be seen working late into the night last night,
cleaning windows and applying a fresh coat of paint to Butch Gillespie's
former Butcher Shop.
It won't be long and Ryan's newest location will add yet another
view to Grafton's downtown facade. Giving us one more reason to say,
"our growing is showing."

The "postage stamp" mailman delivered a couple checks yesterday
for the benefit of beautiful young Becca Mattson. They came attached
with notes I would like to share with everyone.
Vic and Dorothy Johnson wrote, >>> Gary, We would appreciate if ou
would see to it that this check gets delivered. Becca's mom Elaine and
Vic are second cousins.
Our weather has really warmed up. We are supposed to hit the 90's
by Sunday. The mornings and evenings are beautiful. See you in late
April. Vic & Dorothy <<<
Thanks a million for caring and sharing Dorothy. Too often,
folks use distance and separation as an excuse 'not to participate' in
the really important aspects of life.

Glenna & Senator Harvey Tallackson enclosed the following message
with their contribution to Becca's worthy cause.
They wrote, >>> Dear Gary
Please see that this donation gets to Becca Mattson's benefit
fund. Harvey and I are in Bismark & didn't make it home last weekend,
plan to be home this weekend -- maybe. Unfortunately not in time for
theFish Fry at Heritage Village.
Becca's mother Elaine, & Ralph & Violet (grandparents) were
neighbors - and belonged to the same church. (Zion Lutheran) Ralph and
Violet had a large family and managed to raise them to be good citizens.
Thanks for the Gazette, we enjoy it. Glenna and Harvey Tallackson. <<<
Thanks a million Glenna, for your kind words, and for your wonderful
contribution to benefit Becca. I will make sure your contributions and
your best wishes get to Becca.
I would also like to encourage anyone that can, please keep Becca
and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

So far, Scott Hove's note regarding papers from Monson's School
District 114 has generated two responses. First >>>
Gary,
Please tell Scott Hove that if he can't find anyone interested in
Grafton that I am a member of the Red River Valley Geneological Society,
the Bismarck-Mandan Historical and Genealogical Society and the North
Dakota State Geneological Society and I "WILL" find a home for these
records. The State Historical Society in Bismarck would love to have any
records that we can not find a proper home for. Let me know.
Jessica Mattson Rossow <<< Thanks Jessica

Bev Demers shared the following. >>> Gary, I wonder if the Walsh
County Auditor would like the records Scott is referring to. The Auditor
is also acting as County Superintendent of Schools. Sharon Kinsala's
email address is skinsala@nd.gov if Scott wants to inquire of her.
Bev <<< Thanks Bev, I was hoping that maybe there would be a place at
Heritage Village, or someplace in the county that would want them. Then
again, maybe not. ------------------------
======== HAPPYBIRTHDAY======== ~~~~~~ JENNIFER HARTJE ~~~~~~
Today Jenny celebrates the anniversary of her birth. I could tell from
Jenny's very first spanking in the delivery room that she was 'training'
her voice for something. She grew up to be one of Grafton's prettiest
hockey cheerleaders. Jenny shares the same birthday as Neil Sadaka
(1939). The hit song Blame it on the Rain by Milli Vanilli could be
heard up and down the hospital halls, after she fell asleep. Jennifer
joined 226,545,805 legal United States Citizens the day she was born and
even so,.. she was a very special little girl.
Happy Birthday Jennifer, we love you very much. Grandma & Grandpa

Some have already responded, and, I'm sure many more will.
However, just in case some folks missed it earlier. I'll send out
another REMINDER.

I am pleased to welcome Darrin Beier and Ryan Bakken to the
Gazette family.
Ryan writes a column for the Grand Forks Herald so I suppose now I'll
have to start using my 'spell check'.... again.
