March 23, 2009 - Monday (Early Edition)

Todays Gazette is brought to you from the rising waters of the Park
River.
------------------------
The current temperature is 36 degrees.
Yesterdays H/L temperature was 57/34
Normal H/L temp for this date is 36/20
It was 78 degrees on this date in 1910
The "unofficial" Gazette rain gauge recorded .28 inches of rain between
the supper hour Sunday afternoon and 6:00 am this morning.
Most weather forecasters are calling for rain several days this week.
They just haven't agreed, yet, how to say it.

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
-----------------------
Gowans crew and equipment has been working as hard and fast as
possible to beat possible flood. Sunday afternoon local police and
firefighters went around contacting residents in the most flood prone
ares of town reminding them of the possibility that the newly
constructed dikes may not hold. The concern, as I understand it, is that
the material used in the dikes is already saturated and extremely
difficult to pack and scape.
That concern along with a forecast of 1 to 2 inches of rain in the next
couple days is more than enough reason for every resident to be
concerned.
I received Mayor Burianek's latest message at 7:00 pm Sunday evening.

Subject: UPDATE
We have another revised flood projection update.
The NWS is now forecasting a crest of 15 feet by TUESDAY March
24th. Gowan Construction crews are working hard to complete the dikes
west of the Lessard Addition and when needed will complete the levees at
5th Street and the east side of the Park.
There is a great chance of precipitation for our area over the next
72 hours. If not for that, the crest would be far less than that which
is now projected. It is the additional moisture that is of greatest
concern to us now.
