L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
------------------------
Tonight there will be two very important charitable events held in
Grafton. Christl Durand shared the following message a few days ago. Her
message is worth repeating again today. She wrote; >>>
Gary, It is unfortunate that tonight holds two very worthwhile
charitable events, Unity Medical Center Foundation 18th annual spring
banquet and the Teen Challenge banquet. I know the good people of
Grafton will do their best to come out and support both events. Unity's
banquet will be held at St. John's parish center beginning at 6:30pm.
Advanced tickets are available by calling 352-9372 or stop by the
hospital front desk. A delicious meal, prepared and served by St. John's
parishioners, along with entertainment by the North Valley Community
Men's Choir will make for an enjoyable evening.

sharing Christl.

Several individuals have written wondering about the status of the
Grafton Milk Company milk bottles.
As I understand it, they did get sold although I don't know to whom.
Several individuals expressed interest in them and everyone, that
contacted me, indicated they believed the bottles would be most
appreciated by members of the Molde family. And, of course, I couldn't
agree more.
--------------------------
I received the following question from Gail. >>>> Gary,
Could you explain what this extreme fighting event is going to
be? Are they "professionals" or people off the street, or wrestlers,
or boxers, or what? Sorry if I'm making you repeat yourself.
Evidently, I missed it the first time.
Thanks, Gail <<< Thank you for caring and sharing Gail. Extreme
Fighting or Ultimate Fighting has been reported by some as one of the
fastest growing "crazes" in the country. I believe it's popularity is
right up there with "gang beatings" and "street violence". I suspect
there are "Professionals" (that being people that actually do make some
money). I'm guessing the major money makers in the events are the
promoters such as Mad Dog Productions.
+++++++
There are as many different opinions about Extreme Fighting as there
are people. Of course the same could be said for exotic (pole) dancing
as well.
Tom shared these thoughts. >>>
Gary, I take Wendy*s approach to the "Fighting" thing. I feel
that this is PART (of course, only part) of our society that makes it ok
for our school children to loose respect for each other. After all
they see these exhibits that society deems acceptable!! <<<< Thanks a
million for caring and sharing Tom.
++++++++
This note takes a different direction on the same topic. >>>>
It would appear that the ultimate fighting thing could be decided by
public participation, not by someone imposing their morality on others.
Similar to the stripper issue. There used to be a strip club in Grand
Forks and there still is in Fargo from what I understand. Neither played
to a full house, the one in Fargo has a handful of people from what I
understand. One of the nice things about living in a free country is
you're free to participate or not participate in activities as you see
fit. I'd rather use my own judgement than depend on the government or
others to tell me what's right and what's not. <<<<
Thanks a million for caring and sharing. I am always fascinated by the
idea that we, shouldn't have, nor do we need, more government rules and
regulations. That "we" should be free to participate or not.
There really shouldn't be a "need" for speed limits, because "we"
should know better anyway. Or, that there shouldn't be a need to
regulate murder and mayhem on public streets simply because "we" will
always know whats best for us and not get involved,..... if we choose
not to.
The "proposed" Ultimate Fighting event will be staged on, in, or around
property that I pay taxes to support. I see that as more than sufficient
validation to express my personal dissatisfaction to exposing the
juveniles of this community to such brutality. Or so it seems to me.

Yesterdays mention of the problems migrating crows create gave Jan
reason to share the following. >>>> Hi Gary:
Was great seeing you on Saturday, what a great day it was for Grafton
businesses as well as Grafton and area folks. I read with
astonishment your words about the area of land around the crow's
nest being set aside for the use of the crows, in case they come back
to their nest. Our priorities seem to have changed drastically if
crows, being the menace that they are, are given this much respect!!
Where is the respect for mankind???
Jan Burns <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Jan. It's
times like this that the only rational response I have is. "Things will
go along like this for awhile,...... and then they'll get worse."
