SKEETERVILLE GAZETTE
05/03/06 WEDNESDAY
--------------------
Todays Gazette is brought to you by fresh mint flavored FEEN-A-MINT.
You'll wake up full of pep instead of poop.
--------------------
The current temperature is 45 degrees.
Yesterdays H/L temperature was 66/40
Normal H/L temp for this date is 64/39
On this date in 1967 the low temperature was 5 (five) degrees. Brrrrr.
It doesn't sound like the next few days will be good ones for airing
out bed sheets.

L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
----------------------
After being open just two days, several folks could be seen leaving
Pizza Hut hungry Tuesday around dinner time. (lunch for you folks south
of St. Paul) It seems they were experiencing some type of equipment
problems. I didn't hear exactly what they problem was, they may have
had trouble keeping the Canadian bacon out of "our" country sausage.
-----------------------
Oscar Lauzon stopped in Granny's Tuesday morning for breakfast and a
daily dose of bull dung. We tried everything we could to pry some his
"Valley City" money out of billfold,... to no avail.
------------------------
Grafton city municipal utility crews are busy picking up residents
residue from this years spring cleaning. One noticeable change, this
year from last, is the lack of exercise equipment in the piles. I'm not
sure if that means more folks are actually using the stuff, or, that
they all got thrown away during last years cleanup.
Anyway, this year seems to be "the year of the mattress". It seems
there are discarded mattresses, almost every other block. I'm not sure
what that means anymore. I know back in the 50's and early 60's, when
the dump ground was out by Fair Oaks Golf Course. Joe Larson would have
used a few of them to "insulate" his caretaker shack, and, one or two
inside to "sit" on.
-------------------------
Sometimes it's fun sharing rumors, then again, sometimes it's not. The
latest rumor is one of those not-so-much-fun ones. It seems, according
to several local folks, we will not have a local Ford / Chrysler
Automobile Dealership in town much longer.
That certainly is not good news for Grafton nor for those that have
done their new car business there for many years. Often when I hear a
rumor, whether it is true or not isn't really important. This one
is,...to me, and "our" entire community.
Time,... if no-one else, will tell whether this rumor has substance.
---------------------------
It happened in 1968. Norman and Rueben Russum were listed among the top
7 sugarbeet growers in the Drayton Factory District. They harvested 150
acres and averaged 16.67 tons per acre.
Arnold Barclay was in the top three in the East Grand Forks district
harvesting 115 acres averaging 17.21 tons per acre.

"Free Will Offering" pancake and sausage breakfast at Heritage Village
on Sunday, May 7, 2006 from 9am til 1pm. Also, we will be selling
"BARBACOA" at $6.00 per lb. For those who don't know what Barbacoa is,
it is a Spanish BBQ.
If you haven't had the opportunity to appreciate all of the Grafton
area early culture, Heritage Village has to offer, your missing out on
something wonderful.

The most gratifying parts of doing the Gazette is hearing from folks it
goes out to. This note comes from a lady I haven't seen or talked to for
a long,...long time.

It was great fun and a privilege to visit with you during a recent visit
to Grafton. I think you have the same energy level as when we were in
sixth grade! My primary reason for visiting was to see Ray and Ione
Brown, but it was great to talk with you after all these years. I didn't
realize you live so close to them.
I agree with you that Grafton is a great little community. I've always
thought so, and I did not want to move away - especially in the middle
of high school. Obviously, the choice was not mine. Although my return
visits are not frequent, I always enjoy visiting and reminiscing about
the "good old days." So, why do I live in Wisconsin? It's a long story -
one for another day.
Unfortunately, I will miss the festivities in Grafton this summer. Our
daughter Jennifer is getting married in Los Angeles. After that, my
wallet and suitcase will have to stay home for a while.
In the meantime, I am glad to hear that Pat is well. I also hope Grafton
continues to grow and prosper.
Have a great summer!
Susan (Pickett) Torgrude <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing
Susan, and, thanks to Ray and Ione Brown for inviting me over for the
visit.

I received the following note from Mario yesterday as well. >>> Dear
Gary,
It is nice to see someone in Grafton is keeping those of us who have
moved away, up to speed on what is going on. I don't get to Grafton very
often and it is nice to know all the new things happening. Keep up the
good work.
Mario Gourde, Firefighter/EMT, Aberdeen South Dakota. <<<
Thanks a million for the note Mario. It sure is great knowing someone is
actually getting this stuff.

It's only fitting to follow up a note from a Firefighter, with the list
of this weeks Firefighters calendar draw lucky winners.

GOTTA GO WORK ON MY DASH
==================================
The Gazette works best, when the folks the read it, write it. Or so it
seems to me.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they are,
before it's too late.
