L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.

If the number of vehicles parked in the Pizza Hut parking lot is any
indication. I'm guessing there must be a pile of folks happy the Hut has
opened again.
------------------------
" SPUD "
The term "spud," once a popular equivalent of "potato" is said to have
originated from the initials of a dietetical society, now inactive,
called the Society for the Prevention of Unwholesome Diet.

Miss Muriel McAulay left Sunday for St. Paul where she attends Derham
high school at the college of St. Catherine. She visited over the Easter
holidays with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John McAulay.

Paper still covers the windows of the former J. C. Penney building.
It's apparent that the individual that wrote "open soon" on the paper in
front of that facility has a different meaning of soon than Webster.
------------------------
Just about the time I thought we had lost "our" newest contribution to
the field of veterinary medicine, I received the following note from
Rod. >>> Gary,
Just dropping a quick note to let you know the Gazette is arriving loud
and clear in Albany, MN. Thank you for doing what you do and saying what
you say. This is a wonderful way for those of us who have moved away to
keep up with what is going on at "home".
Sincerely,
Rodney Gourde DVM <<< Thanks a million for the note Rodney. Unless I
hear back from "our" subscribers, I really don't know if they are
receiving the Gazette or not. It's a lot easier to write, when you know
there is someone out there receiving it.

Yesterday I mentioned how wonderful the staff was at Grafton Unity
Medical Center and how well they took care of Pat during her short visit
there over the weekend.
If we would have had to go to Grand Forks, and, had everyone that came
to visit Pat at Unity in Grafton would have gone to Grand Forks. It
would have been 1270 vehicle miles,.. or more.
Gosh I'm glad we have such a wonderful Medical facility in Grafton.
------------------------
Speaking of a wonderful Medical facility. Denise Sevigny wants to share
the following message. >>>
Gary:
As I read your note of appreciation for Unity Hospital, I felt
slightly ashamed of myself for not thanking the Unity staff in a more
public way for their recent care of my father, Wayne Siewert. You may
have seen his picture in the Record recently during physical therapy
awareness week. Of course, various members of my family and I thanked
staff members individually, but public recognition is also necessary.
My father experienced a rare condition (blood clot on his spine) on
November 30th and has been hospitalized since that time. After being in
facilities in Grand Forks and Fargo, he spent two weeks in Unity. His
progress was remarkable, and I attribute a significant portion of that
progress to the personalized care he received. Kelly (Nelson) LaBonte
was a classmate of my brothers; Anita Zavalney's aunt is my dad's
sister, etc. There are not six-degrees of separation in this community.
So I offer a heartfelt and public "Thank You" to everyone at Unity
Medical for their care of my father and for their care of others; for
their good natures and their professionalism; and for being here in
Grafton.
My dad is now in Grand Forks at the rehab making further progress.

P.S. Please add my husband to your mailing list. He works at
Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls and reads
most of his e-mails there. <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing
Denise. "Our" community medical facilities will need a positive attitude
as well as the support of everyone in the area, if it is to survive.
The Readers Digest Version,.... use it,.. or lose it.

I am still receiving comments on the "sign" on the corner of the bp gas
station. Although I have some inclination as to the "author", can't be
certain. I received the following note from Billy and he would like to
share the following. >>> Hi Gary,
I can't seem to find out who put the sign up but please thank them. I'm
sure the person will see it in your paper. Thanks, Bill <<< Thanks for
the note Bill. True acts of kindness, generate their own rewards from
within. I'm certain that everyone that read that message gave thanks in
as many ways.
------------------------
Speaking of acts of kindness. Loretta sent the following. >>> Gary:
Just a 'note' to ask if you would remind your readers that Grafton
Lutheran has 'our' Salad Luncheon on Thurs. - May 4th; from 11:00 a.m.
to 1:00 p.m. ALL are welcome, of course - the more the merrier!
Proceeds go to the Grafton Lutheran AND local young folks who are
planning on attending the Nat'l. Conference in San Antonio, Tex. in
July.......We will do 'take-outs' - but we don't deliver - - so if you
want to order (like from work, etc.) and then send someone to 'fetch'
the same - please call 352-2638......Thanks Gary - (as alway's - you do
a great job/service to the community.) Loretta M. <<< Thanks a
million Loretta. Lets hope lots of folks show up and eat those young
folks a trip, all the way to San Antonio.
-----------------------
I found it ironic that I received the next note from the Wendelbo's
shortly before Nessa had to go to Altru by Grafton's Volunteer Valley
Ambulance Service.
>>> Gary Just a note to see if you noticed in the Walsh County
Record on April 26th that there is a Basketball Game Benefit for Nessa
Schrank & family May 4th at the Grafton High School gym
7:30pm-9:oopm Howard & Rose <<< Thanks a million for
reminding us and lets hope the auditorium is packed with healthy
energetic young folks pulling, praying and cheering for Nessa.

GOTTA GO WORK ON MY DASH
==================================
The Gazette works best, when the folks that read it, write it. Or so it
seems to me.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they are,
before it's too late.
