L O C A L news & Stuff,.. mostly stuff.
-------------------------
Like the coming of winter, as predictable as the setting sun, "our"
Ohio Fox Hunters walked into Granny's this morning for breakfast. I'm
sure those folks, not aware of the Ohio Hunters traditional trek to
Grafton, were wondering if the six gentlemen were long lost relatives,
back for a northern North Dakota homecoming.
I must admit, it sure did feel that way for me,... and, I think,
everyone else at our table as well. Shortly after they arrived and shook
hands, Chuck looked around our table and said , "I noticed Dave French
isn't here, then again I remember reading about him leaving in the
Gazette." Gosh it was great to see those guys.
For the "newer" Gazette members, an explanation is in order. For
several years a group of Fox Hunters have visited our area staying for a
week to 10 days. These fellows drive into town and quietly take up
residence at one of "our" local motels. And, although they will put from
$40 to $60 worth of gas in each of their pickups each day. Their primary
'mode' of transportation is walking, snowshoeing and predominantly
'tracking' wildlife throughout northeastern North Dakota and
northwestern Minnesota.
The two conditions they really appreciate when they come to visit is
cold, the colder the better, (normally that's not a problem) and, snow,
the deeper the better. I suspect Wednesday's temperatures in the 40's
will make their socks (among other things) a bit sticky, but they did
have 8 to 10 inches of snow to tramp around in.
Maybe Al Gore was right, maybe there is something to this global
warming thing. Besides, I haven't been able to find one person that
remembers seeing a glacier in the last while.
Anyway, I would like to extend a most cordial welcome to "our" friends
from Ohio. Friends I affectionately refer to as, "The Ohio Fox Hunters".

Due to circumstances that I often can't control, even if I wanted to.
The Gazette will be printed with invisible ink for the next few days. I
will, however, have my "packet" of Grafton Area Volunteer Firefighters
Calendar draw tickets with me. So just in cast I should bump into you,
and, I forget to ask. It'll be perfectly alright with me, if you ask me
for some,.... tickets. Some folks are buying tickets for each of their
children, some for their grandchildren, and of course there are those
that just buy them so if they win, they can give the money back to the
department or another one of their favorite volunteer organizations.
Or,... that's the way it seems to me.
Did I mention this years drawing is for $11,520 in cash prizes? Did I
mention that this year there will be 2 draws per day for 6 Months? Did I
mention that, Technically, you could win everyone of this years 368
draws? Of course, even I believe that would be very difficult, because,
I'm telling everyone I sell a ticket to,.... they're going to win. When
all the while of course, the real winners are the Grafton Area Volunteer
Firefighters. With every ticket you purchase. You are saying, "THANK YOU
FIREFIGHTERS, for all you do for us. Some might say you would be putting
your money where your mouth is. I prefer to say, "you would be giving
your money from the heart,... to save a soul."
Or so it seems to me.

I can't send this out without adding Marks note regarding the recent
events at Leistikow Park. >>>> Gary,
Maybe a little barbed-wire would help keep the snow-mobiles and ATV's
out of the park! It could be dressed-up with a little garland or lights!
(Just kidding!) I admire and commend Wally for not giving up or giving
in! Have a Great 2007
Mark <<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Mark. I agree, Wally's
tenacious desire to maintain a first class display is unwavering.

P.S.
I'm receiving a few comments from the newsfromgrafton.com web site.
Some of them are very interesting, some a touch controversial.
Unfortunately, unless they come with a name and address (so I can be
certain they are legitimate, concerns) I will not sent them out. If, on
the other hand, you prefer you remain anonymous, I have no problem with
that and I will withhold you name.
Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they are,
before it's too late.
