L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
-----------------------
Workers were cleaning out the former Subway Sandwich facility in
Western Plaza yesterday. I can only guess - as it's been several weeks
since the fire - the aroma from rotten food, smoke, burned plastic and
upholstery must have been a real bugger.
By the looks of the giant dumpster outside. About the only thing
that will be left in the building when the Innis cleanup crew gets done,
will be sailboat fuel.

Syttende Mai, for those wondering, has a similar
significance in Norway as July 4th has in the United States of America.
It marks the country's declaration of independence. >>>>
Hi Gary,
Another event happening on Saturday the 17th is Our
Saviour's Syttende Mai dinner from 4 to 6:30pm at Our Saviour's
Lutheran Church here in Grafton. Everyone is welcome to come and
have a delicious Norwegian dinner.Thank you for mentioning this and
also thank you for the Gazette!
Lana Loranger <<<< Thanks a million for caring and sharing Lana.

Mention of the outdoor theater gave Michelle reason to share the
following. >>>> Gary,
Speaking of outdoor movie theaters the Sky-Vu Drive In in
Warren MN (my hometown) open's for the season Friday May 23... Well
worth the drive. I know that one of the Car clubs in the area is
going to have a Cruz' night - I do believe they post which movies are
showing in the GF Herald entertainment section. I recall when I was a
youngster going with my parents in our PJ's that way my siblings and I
were ready for bed when we got home after a late night movie. My dad
worked there as a teen and loves to talk about it. Michelle Frederick

Thanks a million for caring and sharing Michelle. If anyone
happens to get over to Warren, say hello to my friend and former sugar
tramp Ray Burwell for me.

This note comes from the lost and found department. Hi Gary, can
you please help Brad and I by spreading a message in the
Gazette? Since Tuesday 05-13-08 our 2 grown St. Bernards have been
missing. They have collars with their names and phone numbers listed.
The females name is Clover and the males name is Tiny. Tiny is an
amputee and missing his back leg. both are way too friendly. Brad can be
reached at cell number 360-0290.
Thanks for your help.
Robin Suda <<<
I sure hope someone out there can help us out with
this one. Robin didn't say if their St. Bernards were equipped with
those neat little whiskey barrels on their collar or not. However, I
have to believe, either way, it's time for them to come home.

Saturday will be a fantastic day to come to Grafton. Stop by
Valley Brake Service and the super efficient Mennonite Youth Group will
clean it up squeaky clean. While they're doing the washing, you can
partake in their fantastic Hamburger Fry & Bake Sale. The benefit
is for a 17 year old paralyzed member of their group to help defray
costs of rehabilitation to help the young man walk again. When our
community needs help, the Mennonite Community is always there, in full
force, to help. This benefit affords our community a rare opportunity to
reciprocate. They'll be washing my car sometime Saturday between 10 and
3 and Pat says her car will be there too.
That's for certain!!!!

Diane Odegard thought the whole world should know that her
sweetheart (Dr. Rick) and son (Matt) will both be celebrating the
anniversary of their birth on Saturday.
May 17th is Rick's 50th birthday and Matt's 27th birthday.
They were both born on Norwegian Independence Day. Email them on their
big day. Let's see how many wishes they get on their day! Rick's
email is rodegard@gfwireless.com and Matt's email is
matt.odegard@hbsound.com <<<
Thanks a million for caring and sharing Diane and we wish Rick and
Matt the very best on their special day.
Dr. Rick Odegard runs the Kindness Animal Hospital just north of
the Big Sioux truck stop on the south west corner of Grand Forks. I
don't think so,... but maybe Rick knows Clover and Tiny, or, maybe he
can tell us where St. Bernards go,...... when St. Bernards go missing.
----------------------
The motorhome has been cleaned, filled with water, loaded with
fuel, food and the anticipation of another great year of fishing. All
that remains is a quick stop at Schumacher's to check the tires and we
will be heading northeast to Arnesen's Rocky Point Resort on the south
shore of the beautiful Lake of the Woods.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that fishing will be
fantastic again this year. Fishing at Rocky Point is ALWAYS fantastic.
Sometimes, for me at least, it can be just a wee bit slow.
So, for the next few days I'll either be fishing, or wising I was
fishing. If you don't hear from me for a few days, that's probably where
I'll be.

~ Congratulations to all the Graduates ~ Next week marks the beginning
of "Square Cap and Tassel Season". Our
Granddaughter Krystal, (Jeff and Yvette's oldest) will be walking across
the stag of Grafton High School and gramma Patty will be wiping a flood
of eye lubricant from her eyes.
Our Grand Niece, Jillian Demester will be celebrating the same
event at the same place, the very same day. So too, will family friend
MacKenzie Dawn Lunski.
Our Grand Niece, Kate Jordan Pederson will be among the members of
the Grand Forks Central graduating class next week as well. As I look at
Kate's picture on her graduation announcement. I simply can't help
thinking how pleased and proud her grandfathers, Chuck and Jarl, would
be if they could only have been here to see their beautiful little Kate
walk across that stag.
Somehow,.... I just know they will.
