L O C A L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
----------------------
Yesterday was the first official "POTHOLE" day of the season. If
someone should happen to tell you that "our" streets are full of
"potholes". Don't believe them. Yesterday I found to spots on two
different streets that didn't have a pothole in them. One of those spots
was almost fifty feet long and the other about half that size.
I've always thought God made potholes and hemorhoids on the same
day, for the same reasons, they both give us a pain,... in the same
area.
It would be wonderful if someone could come up with gainful use
for a pothole. Something that would give economic value to the
communities that harbor them. Maybe,... "we" could rent space beside the
potholes to front end alignment facilities to advertise on. The signs
could give directions to "our" local wheel alignment shops.
In reality, potholes are a problem all over, especialy in northern
climates. "Our" community, in my opinion, does better than most at
attacking them with vengence.
+++++++++++
Another, almost the same but differant, problem in the spring for
us "Northeners" is the spring thaw. It too, is a pain preperation-H
can't relieve. Snow and ice plugged storm drains, compounded by short
term "abandand" cars in streets, are only a few of the problems that
prohibit "our" GMU crews the opportunity to clean and drain streets
properly.
Take for instance, the street in front of "our" neighborhood
multi-unit living facility. Although the complex has provided off street
parking, including garages. Cars constantly plug both sides of the
street hampering proper street plowing and cleaning, often, making it
all but impossible. Of even greater concern is the saftey issues created
by that practice. All while the sign out in front of the facility boasts
of "professionally managed facities".

I have received a couple notes of appreciation for sharing Don
Kitzmans note on the magnifyng capabilities of a computers mouse. Dan
Crookston sent the following. >>> Good tip on turning mouse wheel to
enlarge type, a first grader probably knew it. But for us folks that
got started late in life in the 'puter game, every tip helps.
I'm on yahoo and get your paper regularly. Keep it coming
good entertainment in the GOLDEN YEARS.
Dan <<< Thanks Dan, for caring and sharing. I noticed this morning that
the "juno site" folks are still blacklisting the Gazette. I just wonder
how long it's going to take the folks in Washington D.C. to fix that
problem. There's absolutly no reason on earth they shouldn't be able to
solve such a small problem.... Right?
-----------------------
Speaking of this time of the year. It's a good idea to check the
snow and ice buildup on your roof. If the snow is to thick, when it
melts, water can back up under your shingles and "sneak" into you attic.
That, according to carpenters, isn't a good thing. Often, the same folks
that clean your driveway and sidewalks, can solve that problem for you
as well.
------------------------
The other day when I mentioned all of the eating establishments
Grafton has to offer. I, unintentionally, forgot to mention Lee's
Chinese Restaurant. I also didn't mention that folks from all over the
area come to town specifically to eat at Lee's. That, is a good thing.
The fact that Lee's "features" sugarcane sugar packets on their tables
is not a good thing. I am working on that, and, I would expect every
sugarbeet grower in the area should be doing the same.
++++++++
Of course I also didn't mention the Curling Club, or Fair Oaks
Golf Course. Both of those facilities provide great food but with a
limited menu, and, on a limited basis. They are both operated
seasonally.
--------------------
Did I mention the Sand Ranchers and Camel Jockey's dictated
another increase in the cost of filling my snowblower 10 cents
yesterday. Yup, I still think it's crazy to open up the Alaskan oil
fields. Certainly not when we can keep paying high gas prices so the
Arabs can buy linen for the sheet heads overseas.

GOTTA GO WORK ON MY DASH
==================================
The Gazette works best, when the folks that read it, write it. Or
so it seems to me.

Write if you can, call if you can't, and, tell your loved ones they are,
before it's too late.
