September 8, 2008 - Monday

WELCOME to the family Marcus David
Todays Gazette is being brought to you by Marcus David Moe,.. our brand
spankin new grandson. Marcus David was born this day measuring 18.9
inches and weighing 6 lbs 12 ounces. It's obvious, for now at least,
little Marcus won't being playing the center spot on a professional
basketball team. However, he just may be the fastest little guard on the
Grafton Spoiler team someday. (Right Ken?)
----- CONGRATULATIONS -----
Christy & Josh
From your very proud Grandparents
Patti and Gary
It really is great being grandparents. It is especially great,.... when
you become Great Grandparents. Or so it seems to me.

The current temperature is 60 degrees.
Yesterdays H/L temperature was 64/47
Normal H/L temp for this date is 73/47
It was 99 degrees on this date in 1959

L O CA L news & stuff,.. mostly stuff.
--------------------------
It was a bit easier to see some changes in our little community this
trip home.
A few streets had new blacktop overlays, even the one by our house was
redone while I was gone. The block of 4th street east of Hill Ave is
finished and in use as is the block of 6th street west of Hill.
The road through Leistikow park looks super, as does the entire park.
And, the second lift has been applied, which completes the St. Johns
church parking lot as well.
Simonson's new Subway Sandwich Shop grand opening still looks, to me
anyway, like it will be a several months away yet.
++++
Rumor has it one of our local photography studio's will have a new guy
pushing the shudder buttons.
And, so far, that beautiful newer home on the southend of town is still
looking for a new remote control operator.
++++
I understand Shawn Kasprick's family will be calling the former Ole
Berg house home very soon and the Craig's have been working diligently
on their new south end Hill Ave home.
++++
I understand Marcene and Clyde will be calling their Grafton dining
room "The Arizona Room" this winter.
---------------------------
I received the following note from Traie, and, along with expectations
of another "exhibition game" scheduled for Grafton, am sharing it will
everyone.

2011 WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP
Grand Forks has been chosen as one of the three finalists to host
the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship. The other finalists are
Buffalo, NY and Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN. The 2011 World Junior Hockey
Championship is a ten nation tournament featuring the world's best
hockey players under the age of 20. This is the same great event that
Grand Forks hosted in 2005!
The Site Selection Committee from USA Hockey will be visiting
Greater Grand Forks on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 and we need your help
as we seek to put our best foot forward with a world-class
"Community Rally" at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
In order for Grand Forks to have a legitimate shot at securing
this event, the Community Rally must be an "absolute success" in order
to demonstrate our communities' desire to once again host this
prestigious event. If we don't energize the community and get people out
for the Community Rally, we won't get this event. We need a successful
Community Rally to differentiate ourselves from the other finalists
noted previously.
///////// //////// /////////
----- -- We need your help! -- -----
We need the community to come out and show their support for this
event as we attempt to make a favorable impression on the Site Selection
Committee and help North Dakota secure this prestigious World
Championship event.

When: Tuesday, September 16
Lunch will be served from 12 to 1 p.m.
Rally will be from 12:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.
Where: Ralph Engelstad Arena – Main Lobby
Parking: Free on-site parking at the Ralph Engelstad Arena
Lunch is on us! Free hot dogs, chips, and drinks, will be served.
Come on out for live music, prizes, great food,
special guest appearances, and a
GRAND Community Rally!!!!

I might add that the 2005 World Juniors exhibition game held in
Grafton, provided "OUR" area with a contest that exceeded everyone's
"wildest" (pardon the pun) imagination. For that reason, among others, I
certainly encourage everyone's involvement.

Mark your calender and plan to attend the big event at Grafton's
Heritage Village on September 21.

I received the following note from "59" graduate Loren Lundberg. I
guessing someone out there can help him out.
Here's his note. >>>> Subject: "Terry Lee & The Poor Boys"
Strange call this weekend from a Bob Becker in the Fgo/Mhd area. A
million years ago, he WAS "Terry Lee".
He was calling me because my signature was on the "Receipt" for the
payout for our share of $35 on the night of the dance at the Armory in
September 1959.
I drew an absolute BLANK then and still. If he had not FAX'ed a
copy of the receipt with my Parker Penmanship scrawl, I probably would
still not remember this.
Was this another dance by The Drifters? Or did they just need
someone local to rent the Armory?
Becker is apparently still in the entertainment business and does a
pre-recorded show every week on the Grafton radio station. He plans
on mentioning this dance on his show on the 14th and then sometime in
the next week calling me to ask questions about it - I told him I'd have
to remember it first, so can any of you help or, EVEN BETTER, if you
remember it, YOU do the interview!
Help!!
LL <<<<<<
So there you have it. Someone must remember the event in question, and,
may even be willing to be interviewed.

GOTTA GO WORK ON MY DASH
